Hi All, just got my first Freelander, would already like to say a massive thank you to the breakdown guy from auto care that came to my rescue yesterday who told me about this site and helped me out. Already the Greelander is living up to its rep but I'm going to stick with cause I love it already. Brand new to hear and I think I'm going to need a lot of advise.....

You poor sad deluded sick puppy! You've gone and fallen in love haven't you?
Now you pay the price! You have to learn all about VCU's, IRD's, 1WU tests, Fuel tank supports, window regulators, and a whole lot more, then, depending on whether it is a diseasil, V6 or K series a whole lot of stuff about injectors, thermostats head gaskets and more besides.

Poor, poor boy :(

I am indeed Just order the window regulators as I've only got a working drivers window working. The N/S both need regs and the O/S/R doesn't work at all. New big tool kit ordered, omh metre, watching the bank balance going down lol. Will be good to have something to learn and work on though. I have a basic mechanical knowledge and a decent amount of common sense so willing to give it all a go. She's a 1.8 petrol so lots of issues coming, will prob end doing some sort of conversion... Or find someone to get that bit done?! It had the horrible standard steel wheels on when I got it, just replaced those for the 5 spoke alloys. Cleaned and tidied it up a bit. 1 owner from new on a farm all its life so cleanliness wasn't a known thing with it.

Nope! These two statements are a direct contradiction (I've bought two and still have one)

She looks nice and I agree about the steel wheels, the alloys look soo much better.
There are a few threads on here about K series head gaskets and I'm sorry to say they really are an issue but a great wee engine otherwise. If the head gasket is done right you should get 50k or 60k from it. The problem is all too often people let them overheat causing harm to the head which leads to repeat failure much sooner, or they badly fit a cheap ebay head gasket kit and wonder why it fails. Just keep an eye on the water and oil and you'll be fine.

Oh, and LR need shot for the lousy design of their window regs.

If just had a look underneath the truck and the rear prop shaft has already been removed...... so im thinking they have done preventative work before something happened or the rear axle is on the way out or close to it and they had it removed so it didn't get worse ..?

Look forwards to an up to 2K Bill. If you got it from a dealer get yo money back, and just to give you some good news - you may not be insured
