Hi everyone !

Just joined as i have purchased a 2001 Freelander TD4 ES.

Its very clean almost mint condtion, with all the ES extra's 84,000 miles.

I purchased from a 4x4 specialist and he told me the oil and filter have been changed along with a new MOT.

It has no service histroy (no book) but has some receipts for work done last OCT at 80,000 miles.

Oct 07 = engine service, including antifreeze, pads disc's rear shoes, new flywheel, clutch kit, slave cyl, etc.. total bill £1550.

it drives great and is quiet for a deisel (i was told to go for the TD4 as BMW lump)

my question is this is as there is no histroy is there any part i should get checked or replaced (told no cambelt which would normally e the first thing to change just in case but not needed)

i don't want to pay for a service seeing how most of it has been done already, but just want to make sure i do not miss anything !

Any suggestions ?

welcome to loony land,

you got the td4, best freelander of them all so not to much to worry about, when they are running well,
different story when they start to play up, so get to know it as much as you can , or be prepared to pay dealer lots of your dosh

84000 is one of the service intervals, and it seems from what you are saying it was probably carried out. For piece of mind, and the sake of £30 or £40, I'd do an oil/filter change just in case.

unless you totally trust the garage that sold it to you.

REplace the Pressure delimiting valve filter near the injectors £25 (doddle to fit), replace the turbo filter(even easier) and if your up for a challenge fit a fuel filter
Finally give it a good doose of fuel injector clean into the fuel tank (When/if the injectors play up they can be difficult to get out)

Keep an eye on the coolant level (Tendancy for the cap to leak) cost £3 from L/R

After that if not totally sure top up the rear diff oil and read the tuning diesels website in preperation for Maf failure or you feel its a bit sluugish from set off

Tuning-diesels for cheaper diesel tuning.

Wow great advice new nothing of the all these filters ! it runs great at the minute quite nippy and great pick-up in the gears.

another issue i noticed today was when i reverse and i take my foot off the gas ! it stops i.e it will not roll backwards under its own weight ? it will roll forwards when you push the clutch pedal down , could this be build up of dust in the rear shoes ?

Great advice "Mondo" by the way what do you think "NFN" stands for ? its my private number plate and represents my actions on agression.

Hi yes,

Well its been my plate for years on been on many cars XJS,bemmers etc.. the freelander i purchased for my wife as we have just got a bullmastiff (so her Megane cabriolet is not big enough) and its no going in my new jag sport.

The plate is currently on my Yamaha R1 (182bhp) and these days i would like to think the meaning is more about the machine than my temper ! i'm getting older ! but it was purchased by my then girlfriend as every one nicknamed me NFN so it was not my doing but some thing that stuck as i was fondly named this by my freinds at first.

NFN = No ****ing Nonsense !

Don't worry i'm sure Mondo is a nice chap ! and i'm used to banter ! i use motorycle forums a lot and found them to be great and useful , hence me joining LZ.

My wife loves the freelander which i am surpized at as she is used to driving smaller cars !

I'm not rich although i have some toys did'nt want to appear as a show off ! the Jag is a company car ! and i'm like most earning a living ! but just !
