Hello.

I've today bought a cheapo Discovery for a cheap runaround and a bit of a plaything. I only forked out 1200 quid for it. It's an R reg 2.5 Tdi.

The chassis seems sound enough and the engine runs fine, diff lock works as it should. Just looks a bit rough bodywise and is as leaky as I'd heard they are. The boot floor is soaked under the protective mat thingy but it seems reasonably decent.

So, what should I be checking for with regards to recognised Disco faults and problems? I know absolutely nothing about them.

Cheers.

Steve from Stoke.

And no, I'm not a bloody Stoke fan. Vale all the way.

Hi welcome to LZ. Hope you have lots of fun with your new toy. The biggest enemy of the disco is rust. check inner and outer sills and inner wings. As your boot carpet is soaked, it would appear that either your sunroof or alpine lights are leaking. Again this is a common problem. Mechanically they are fairly robust and the TDi engine is fairly bombproof as long as you stick to the service and cambelt schedules.

Well I pick up my second landy tomorrow.

A '92 plate 110 van.

Since buying my disco by chance last May I'm now a fully fledged convert and will be using this forum a lot more now as I intend to play about with my 110 to build a decent greenlaner.

I can't wait to get stuck in using it for what it was intended.

watch the soaking floor , they rust through and are a pain to replace check all your window seals , find the problem , cure it then rustproof and paint the floor before its to late:D

I'm neither a cat nor a monk. Or a ginge for that matter.

My username is a nickname I've had all my life by my older sisters.

My name is Stephen Lockett and as a toddler I pronounced it as 'Beden Yockett' and so I've always been known as Bede by my sisters. It's stuck and now every ****er knows me as Bede!
