I have searched - a few results but quite old info I fear....so be nice to me....

Took the rad cowl off to replace belt tensioner (failed - but that's another story due to lack of spanner big enough for viscous fan nut...) and found the source of coolant smell and perpetual top-ups..... red stain from n/s upright down the fins and wet underneath........ buggered...... I guess at 190k not too surprising?

Anyway - I'd be grateful for recommendations on current aftermarket suppliers and expected prices? And I get the impression its not a difficult job to do?

While I'm in there I will get that belt tensioner done - is there a knack to the viscous fan removal and what size spanner off the top of anyone's head?

Grateful for any views/preferences - thanks a lot. A

I use a slim adjustable on the fan and just give it a sharp tap to loosen. No idea what size it is of the top of my head.
I also use a piece of hardboard down between the rad and the fan to protect the fins when unscrewing.
Remember its a standard thread on the TD5 fan so left loosy righty tighty.

Cheers Shifty - I spent a while 'sharply tapping' it clockwise cos of course it would be a reverse thread...... Then looked at rotation/angle of vanes and thought 'that would loosen it under normal load...' so reverted to anti clock thread to undo it. If only I'd had your brains and insight earlier!!..... Still stuck tho - prob not helped by the genius tightening it up in the first place. Will get a better fitting spanner on it. I suspect lack of protection of the fins might be behind the leak - tho I guess just as likely to have been a stone at the front over the years.

Hope for recommends on sourcing new rad .....

Cheers, A
