New keys on ebay

I only have 1 key for my l322 which has seen better days tbh.
While searching on eBay I've come across an add that will supply a blank key including electrics for £30 +pp, has anyone brought one of these and where they programable etc?
if they work ok seems like a good buy??

You need to get them programmed in to start the car

But most dealers wont program the key unless they supply the key too

Plus the rubber buttons on the aftermarket (cheap) ones don't last 5 mins

Best get genuine mate

I thought it was a bit to good to be true.
With regards to programming a new key what's our views on the info shown on thus page?

The programming feature you are reading on that site is in relation to syncing the remotes to the central locking.

You can easily pair remote fobs so they will unlock the car

The problem is it won't start the car without getting the proximity chip paired with the immobiliser system

Ah, ok. Thought it all seemed a bit to easy.

To get them programmed you need to access the EWS ECU and then plug that into a software thst will read the imob code....then it sets this code into the key....replace EWS and your good tto go....

Just had a quote from a guy called Tony at AC Auto Locksmiths in Leeds.
He can do a brand new genuine key and programme it with your EWS FOR £150.

He says he is mobile and can call round your house or you can call round at his house.
( I prefer the latter, in the interest of security.)

Any thoughts?

if you cant stretch to the 150 for a new key you could buy a blank case from the bay (about £5)and get your local market locksmith to cut it, transfer your circuit board and transponder chip into it.

accept the actual key blades can be swapped over, saving on the locksmiths costs.

dont buy the ebay cases, they are cheap, nasty copys that dont last 12months !

i bought genuine, cut keys off ebay from a broken car etc.. and swapped circuit boards, chips and key blades.

good as new now, for another 10 years anyway ! lol

That's fine if you want to just replace your old worn keyfob, but I was thinking more in terms of getting a spare key as I only got one with the car when I bought it.

Spoke with 'stealer' this morning and was quoted £275 for a new key!

So the £150 doesn't look too bad after that price!

£150 is cheap for a programmed key !
