New headlights - opinions please

Is that how you have so much condensation in them due to splitting them open to fit the drl's? I'd love to have those done myself but if it means condensation on the level you have i'll pass. That would do my brain in that would. So, exactly how many lights do you have fitted and is there a photo somewhere? I guess you can never have too much light lol.
 
Is there any way you could make a mock up 3D template (foam/cardboard?) for the new light concentrating on making the contour of the front as close to real as poss and then remove one of your lights and see if its gonna be do able?

No need to start cutting away at the headlamp box you can just cut away the back of the template until the unit fits, it could save some frustrating disappointment.

I think the angle may be too sharp and you will at the very least have to mod the wings slightly to make it line up, perhaps also the bonnet., disco lights are pretty square.

How about RR or disco 3/4?

Or just go mental and fit evoque ones:D.
 
Just replied as been out welding up the old girl for her mot.....those jobs you put off, and then realised i had no inner wings :eek:...but i do now :cool:

Will get her through mot this month before i start to tackle the light conversion, as need to do necessities before fun, unfortunately, but don't think there is much left in fairness, hopefully......

The D2 facelifts do have a problem with condensation - and I bet my seals are better than the originals!

I have 6 lights on the roof bar, each with 2 additional LED's for side lights (that are also wired in to come on independantly as work lights - either as a set of 2 or a set of 4 or all 6!), LED DRL's fitted in the headlights, LED clusters replace the side light and indicator bulbs. Projector unit fitted for the dipped with xenon HID conversion and standard H7 main beam, plus 2 additional 8" spots on bumpers with LED clusters for side lights :D

Then at the rear I have LED clusters in the rear lights. Also 2 additional work lights fitted at the top of the rear window, that are also wired in for reversing lights, or to come on independantly for work lights, and also have red LED's in that also act as tail lights.

Plus lots of SMD LED clusters fitted inside the festoon lights and also in the footwells.

Have got LEDs in the inside and outside of the doors handles that come on with the interior lights ;)

Probably have a few more here and there, but reckon they are the main ones :D

That sounds like too much hard work - will just strip her back, try the lights and have my grinder and welder handy :D

L322 lights are too deep, as got the batteries behind the lights, so no real space to gain, have to outwards really. Same with the D3 lights and RRS, plus they are not the cheapest of parts :rolleyes: Only went for the Freelanders as picked them up new for £50.00 ;) so I thought they are worth a punt.

Agree that the angle of the Freelanders may be too steep after a little play at the weekend, but will see how much they protrude out from the bonnet when I have the MOT sorted, as I can easily move out the front grille and weld on a top strip of metal under the bonnet and my bull bar will hide a multitude of sins.....but will see how daft it looks first...

Had a bit of time last night so I thought I would have a look at the lights I have got, as they are LHD versions.

I have now managed to order up the pins to fit into the plug to make them almost factory fit.

Now I just have to sort switching it from Halogen to Xenon ;)

nah, lined them up one night and reckoned they are to 'steep' in their angle so will stick out too much at the front and need too much work.

So after I switched them to RHD I have flogged them.

So again on the hunt for a suitable repalcement headlight.......
 
Tell me about it....sick of looking now.

Or when you do find a flatish headlight it is hugely deep, and no room on the discos with the batteries being there too
 
You're gonna have to pull out all the stops and relocate the batteries

I mean, there are more awkward vehicles out there to do such a job on so consider yourself lucky in that respect

In thinking get some gel batteries and lie them sideways under front seats?
 
Sod that for a laugh.....it aint worth that much trouble....esp when I am still trying to sort my new abs problem :rolleyes:
