definately worth a bit, dont forget, if you cant get the parts the how can anyone else, if you were to strip it and flog the pistons seperately, crank etc etc etc. you wont make enough money to buy your new lump but it will help recover costs!!!

Seems like that could have been the start of your problems, what did they do at the full service?

Not being able to order parts from Land rover sounds fishy to me, especially when he has a long engine lying about. Also as this is a BMW M57 engine you have another source of parts there.

Can't see how the camshaft could be bent, it's usually the valves that get that treatment. Get some pictures to back up any diagnoses, if you are not sure what's being told to you, there are plenty of people on this site that are.

Chaps, I have found a knight in shining armour. I spoke to Dave and had my car towed to him, the fourth garage in two weeks!

He has been a gent, he knows whats wrong and is in the process of fixing it. I will give you more details when I return from my honeymoon and collect my car. Without this forum I would be seriously at a loss so thanks to everyone, if poss I would buy you a pint!

I will let you have a final update when I get my car back but in the words of Dave (the guy fixing my car)... stop calling me and go and have a drink!

Right the plot thickens.

Dave has fixed the head and the piston but the same fault remains... gutted. Now before this problem happened the car used to say 'trans failsafe prog" and go into limp home mode which I think locked the car into 5th gear. Before that happened the car felt like it was slipping out of gears when pulling away. If I switched the car off and on it would clear the message but then would happen again. Do you think it could be the gear box which is causing the landy to rock when idle and have no power to pull away and smoke a little?

Dave is suggesting the fuel mix and is getting someone down today with the equipment to have a look?!

if there are faults logged you'll need it putting on the diag machine, i would have thought the g/b failure wouldnt alter the fuel mix as a way of restricting the car!

Gav, thats not whats happened. No faults come up on the diag machine but the car wont go - just no power. The Mech now thinks it could be a blocked breather or an air injector. All fuel injectors are tickety boo.

Dont know who come out mate... whats the guy in birkenhead like. I dont want to take it off Dave to be honest, the guy has been sweating blood on it. Any other ideas what it might be?
