Hi All,

I have just finished fitting my new engine into my Range Rover.

So the old one is up for grabs. It is a 4.0 Gems V8.

The old lump is as follows.

15k Miles ago the engine was built from scratch, the block was machined and Top Hat liners were fitted this costing around 1.5k alone. It then developed a oil pressure problem at tick over.

The engine has been stripped back to a block. new bearings were fitted to the crank and rods. New camshaft bearings have been fitted and a new OEM standard Camshaft fitted.

New OEM Timing gears and chain have been fitted with a new front cover with oil pump.

The heads have been skimmed, valves lapped in and valve stem oil seals fitted. The rocker gear has also been replaced with new components.

The engine has been run for half a hour or so since the rebuild, but still has a oil pressure issue on tickover. At 1000 revs and above the oil pressure is around 34 - 55psi but at idle it slowly drops off. It has never burnt a drop of oil or consumed any water what so ever.

This is being offered for sale as a long engine with inlet manifold, injectors, fuel rail and plenum (GEMS) This is currently not fitted as we started to strip the engine to find out what was going on.

It is ideal for a rebuild or for spares. All of the parts fitted were genuine Land Rover and have cost me a small fortune.

This must be of use to some one, if only for the block. I would like to see around £600 for the lot but I am open to sensible offers.

Collection can be made from my workshop in Petersfield, Hampshire and is available from today.

Mail me if interested [email protected]

no chance. I know what the new parts which have done no miles are worth. hence the price.

The oil issue maybe something really stupid. the only reason I didn't investigate further was due to a new engine coming up for grabs.

If I get no takers I am more then happy to build it for me to have in a new project.

Just thought the block may be of use to some one.

So you've got a brandnew (not quite but almost) engine with a easily fixed problem (but you didn't fix it) and you abandoned it and bought another (Presumably expensive engine if a dead one is worth £600.) which you're selling on here dirt cheap as an easy fix??

SO pinochio will you be back tomorrow wiv anuffer fairy tale..

look guys,

not after abuse. okay. my rangie has been out of action for 8 months. i got the chance and purchased a brand new coscast engine and fitted it this week to get my range back up and running. Over the last 8 months I rebuilt the old lump as it was my only option to get my rangie back up and running plus to waste the money spent on machining the block and building it the first time round seamed a bloody waste. If the new engine hadn't come up I would be finding the problem and fixing it.

I Thought all you guys were prity desent people. Until the last few sarcie remarks and comments. I will stand buy all the parts fitted to the engine as being new and have only been run for a short while.

I never said it was a easy fix. If i new what the problem was I would be sorting it my self and selling it as a rebuild engine. Any true Range Rover owner nows what these lumps cost new and anyone who has been down the same road as me in re-machining the block understands the costs involved.

If you don't have anything constructive keep your opinions to your selves.

you guys may want to read this... its were it all started.

they may well be expensive new - you may well have spent a lot of money on it - that doesnt mean it's worth a lot of money now, it's just a dead engine

bit of common sense is required

got loads of common sense other then the block being old, well not really but yeah see your point. Every other component is new.. but come on the abuse you lot fired at me was not called for.

Thats the point.

i'd be interested but unfortunately bit skint at the moment, if you still have it in march i will be interested it talking cash!

judging by the "abuse" here it wont sell very quickly but knowing the work you have put in to it the i am confident the block would be worth the hassle of stripping mine dow and making a good one of the 2, let me know if it sells

No probs, I will keep you posted. Its quite happy in my workshop at the moment. Drop me a line and if its here your welcome to it. I would rather it went to some one how is going to use it.

this is all you guys seem to do. snipe and bitch at people. whenever someone new comes on with a question all you lot say is oh FFS do a ****in search you numpty. or something like that.
seem to be lots of arrogant people around.
Not nameing names but its just what i've observed.

But that is what this forum is about. We don't want complete tossers who are too stupid or lazy to type their question into Google, Yahoo or the forums own search engine, becoming members. Neither do we want boring humourless tosspots who think that the only subjects that should be discussed on a LR forum are Landrovers, Joining up and whinging.

And we certainly don't need complete newbies telling us that the way the forum is run is wrong and we shouldn't do it. There are loads of bog standard LR forums out there that cater for those people. Difflock, LRUK, the LR magazine forums and Mud-Club to name but a few. If you want a nice polite informative forum where no one is allowed to abuse you or take the ****. Then join one of those. But don't come on here and tell us we should be like all the other forums, because you don't like the things we post.

The whole point of the huge fracas that went on in LZ & caused OLHI to be created. Was caused precisely because of people like you. Who instead of thinking well actually this isn't the forum for me, so I'll find another one. Thought I don't like this lets change it. Until very recently this forums Logo was One Laugh Have It and as far as I'm aware it still is, even though the logo has been removed from the site.

29th-September-2006, 03:53 hi all,

Thought I would give you an update on my engine. Well after 4 day building and installing it she runs!!!!.

The initial starting was a bit of a head scratcher as she refussed to fire. But a simple bit of thinking and broom. turned out to be the fual cut of switch had been activated so once reset we were in business.

Why is it that you always end up with a few bolts left over when rebuilding something which you took apart? answers on a postcard!

Have I discovered a time warp - or is this just a dream?

How come Sep2006 to Jan 2009 is 8 months?

Are you trying to sell a 2 year old engine as a newly rebuild one?

Lord help yo missus if she gets pregnant.

i agree, it doesn't matter what people write as you don't have to read it. this country is getting too PC, even the drunken sailor song doesn't have any sailors or drinking in it these days(the sun, today) but when theres a **** about who puts in a bit of slavver then why not reciprocate and give him a bit of amusement? he may even have to use two hands to type instead of masturbating and typing at the same time therefore staving off repetative strain injuries!

you can help in so many ways but moaning isnt one of them! moaning about someone moaing is even worse!!

my motto: if you dont like what you see, DON'T ****ING LOOK!!

but lets try and get on if we can eh!

Perhaps Im just a Newbie and have missed the point, or are you suggesting the guy youre quoting is a noob or the thread starter, because they've both been registered longer than you ! ;)
BTW Im taking the ****..............but thats OK !........apparantly :D

It was aimed specifically at the person I quoted. but in general it applies to all the newbies.

And in terms of join date I'm sure there are thousands of people who have been on the forum longer than many of the established forum members. But who have never posted or who have posted a couple of times and moved on. Like the saying goes if you don't vote don't complain. in the same way if people don't post then they don't have the right to try to change something that isn't broken. this forum was set up as an alternative to the run of the mill heavily moderated forums that the INTERNET is awash with. and it has worked remarkably well and is working remarkably well. Yes it's had it's hiccups (what forum hasn't) But it is the members who have shaped it and made it what it is today. So if the vast majority of posting members wanted it to become dull and bland like Mud-Club or LRUK And don't get me wrong I am a member of both forums and they are very useful forums but they are heavily moderated and aren't run anywhere near the way that this forum runs. Then that is the way the forum would go.

Good on yer Red & MHM.
We were all newbies once and had our balls chewed a few times, that said-you are 100% right in saying that the other forums are too serious and furthermore consist of purists, not "Been in the ****e, done it got the T shirt" types and realists that we have on here. Slagging, Yes, Banter, Yes- Good intentioned advice and contribution to solving problems and helping others out, YES.
This is the way the forum works, if people want geeks then subscribe to the others.

Added to my problems-I'm not a Yam Yam Oim a Brummie-had to get away from the gray payse and baycun!!!!!
