Have you had a cost to repair the fault on your Freelander? A classic for £2000 should be in very good condition as there are loads about. Look for rear tailgates rusting, inner rear arches under carpet by seat belt mounts, sills inner and outer, front inner wings, chassis, steering box leaks, electrics all working, etc. I would expect to have to carry out some repairs on a classic costing around £1000 but for £2000 you should be able to find a sound one that doesnt have any of the issues listed above. For what it's worth, the price of Land Rovers in Derby have always been overpriced, have a search on autotrader or ebay and check national as distance, it will give you a good idea of the current market lecvel and what you can expect for your money

not sure wots wrong yet but only has fwd-am hoping that vcu faulty. theres a guy on ebay doing replacement and fitting service in birminghan for about £300ish.
as for the rr clasic, its not in vgc and needs some work doin to it so may leave that one alone and look at some others after the freelander fault is diagnosed properly!

do the snopake test to check ya VCU...

Just do the Willo method, aka Taipan method.

Paint a white line on front and back shafts, not the VCU or damper unit.

Take her for a spin on some wet grass, (Mings choice is golf courses), have some fun, lock the wheels get her to spin and power slide, then have a look underneath to see if your lines still match up.
If they still line up she has siezed and needs replaced, or go "Mondo mode" until such times that it is fixed.

2large for a classic should get you one of the later ones in good nick, leave that one alone but keep an eye out for any more!

thanx for advice. gonna keep looking around but still want to try to sort out freelander if possible. vcu not siezed cos already done tip ex test and all other ones including wet grass. problem is only front wheel drive with vcu attatched-lots of wheel spin and tc light coming on. think vcu has gone other way and not siezed but lost fluid or just broke. looked on forum but not had much luck with this, only with the siezed vcu.

hoping its only the vcu-didnt realise that they could "go" both ways! still gonna get it checked out eventually and get some prices fo repair but gonna keep lookin for a decent rr classic too.

yeah i know, realised after i'd posted wot i'd put. just ad look on ebay, vcu £275 fitted from bloke in birmingham. gonna get savin n decide whether to mend and keep it or change for rr classic.
