Having a look under the Freelander this morning due to a bearing noise but found a hole in the fuel cradle, looks like I have smashed it on something it’s got a little surface rust but the rest is solid,another thing to add to the never ending list.On the bright side it will be easier to change the cradle with the prop shaft off as I need to change the vcu bearings.

It's still a pain in the arse to change the tank cradle. I'll be changing mine this year too.
I have just been reading about how to change it as much as I’m enjoying working on the car and learning think I might just put it in the garage for the cradle,bearings and rear brake pipes just to get them done in one go as long as they don’t try and have my eyes out.

when mine needed changing .. 'cause it split along the tubing
i took the new one in to be powder coated
and was told that the small holes next to the bolt holes
were for gas vent purposes when it were put into the oven after factory painting
i figured that those holes would let moisture in .. aiding the rust process from the inside
after getting it back from the powder coating place .. i blocked those holes up ..
and gave it 4 coats of hammerite ..
( alternating colours so i could see where it be wearing off in time )
then had the garage do the job of fitting it ..
18months ( 30k miles ) back fitted new brake calipers .. gave them the very same hammerite treatment
just changed brake pads yesterday .. and paint holding up real well ..

Thanks for the advice going to order one this afternoon but I will plug them holes up and give it a good covering of something before getting it fitted.just out of interest how much did they charge?just so I have a ball park figure to work with.when mine needed changing .. Truck bed liner paint would work.
bloody car will be held together buy that stuff when I’m finished.

a fair amount of moolah (£) ..
'cause it were the local LR dealership ..
and couldn't say with regards to the tank cradle alone ..
as i had other work done as well at the same time ..
f.brake calipers and brackets
f. brake flexi hoses
f.discs and guards
suspension front lower arms and bushes
anti-roll-bar clamps and bushes
i could check the paperwork to see if labour charges were split up
but right now i'm in a good mood after a shyte day yesterday ..
don't need bringing down

a cargo-strap utilised to hold the fuel tank in place .. be useful ..

It's a big job to replace the fuel tank cradle, you have to split the exhaust, drop
the drive shaft and last but not least, you have to lower the sub frame. Mine goes in on the 12th to get done, been quoted £300 but could be more depending on sub frame giving problems.
