My Mintex Brake discs are too thick..

Put my new Mintex vented front brake disc on on Saturday.
It didn't occur to me to check how thick the vented discs were as they were listed against my model as a replacement, 2005 90 TD5. Turns out there was no clearance once the brake caliper was on because these Mintex vented discs are 24mm thick, but the ones I've taken off are around 20mm.
It seems really difficult to find the right measurements from the various retailers of the actual thickness .
Anyone point me in the right direction.

so who sells the 20mm vented discs that I have on the front of my Landy. Can't seem to find a direct replacement anywhere ?

any pics of the caliper

the caliper has 'Lockheed' written on the side of it from what I remember James.

i was thinking of spacer size between the 2 halves

I'll get some tonight and post up.
Definitely has the spacer, was just trying to get a direct vented replacement but got me scratching my head.
Alternatively I guess I can just go back to solid discs which are only 14mm and plenty of room for those.

So you are fitting vented discs to a setup that should be running solid discs..... I'm thinking this may be your problem

It already had Vented disc 300bhp, those are the crusty ones I've taken off.
Front vented, rusty as hell and 20mm thick.

Might be a stupid question but are you getting your caliper pistons pushed in all the way?

They could well have a rusty ring around to stop you pushing them all the way in.

And pics will help loads, 1 of under the boot of the caliper.

Are you sure this isn't a specially machined disc?
I work for a braking supplier and I've just checked all our lookup dataand can't see anything listed that doesn't have a minimum thickness of 22mm and a starting thickness of 24mm

Yeah will try getting some picks but the disc is no where near the pistons, I have no pads in at the moment because they won't fit in the gap. It's the outside circumference of the disc touching the edge of the caliper

Ok, it's just you said "go back to solid discs". Was it solid discs originally? If so, someone might have machined down some regular vented discs to fit. Wouldn't be too hard if you had the right equipment.

Your pistons aren’t pushed in far enough for your pads - they should be flush. Guessing the rusty bit that is showing is preventing them going all the way in.

Emery cloth to remove the rust, or do yourself a favour and strip them out and replace with Stainless Pistons and new seals.....

I think what he says is that the outer edge of the disc is coming into contact with the caliper, nothing to do with the pad's pistons. Could it be a build up of crusty stuff on the caliper?

As above - those pistons look fubared - I'd be replacing them with SS .... which you'll only need to do once

If the discs are too large a diameter, I'd suggest they are the wrong ones in any event

Heres the bodge. Jack up all four wheels, put into gear. As discs are turning, run a grinder on the edge. Im sure some one will be along in a minute to tell you not to do this.

+1 on the crustiness!

Diameter Should be 298mm
Thickness should be 24mm

Suggest your Calipers are covered in crud.....and the pistons need changing.

How 1 job turns into 5...
The calipers could do with a clean for sure, and taking some off the edge of the disc seems like a perfectly feasible bush-mechanic approach.
