So much happened today, so I am going to try and say this in a shorthand way.

We got to LLangollen, then proceeded to the bottom of Allt y Badi.

Me and my mate (only 2 Discoverys went) were prceeding up the Allt y Badi, teaming with rain with so much loose rock and slate flying everywhere. We are driving up for about 5 minutes when we hit a little slate step which was a struggle to get up. My mate gets up after a few attempts and I try my best to follow.

Smoke was pouring from my tyres I was trying so hard to get up this step, then BANG my clutch has gone..... I try diff lock low, high, low range, high range, 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th,5th and NOTHING!! My heart has literally sank though my butthole.

I then proceed to roll backwards down the hill to the bottom were my mate hooks up a tow rope and tows me back to the pay and display carpark in LLangollen. I then get 4 hours parking time and we decide to hit the Wayfarers instead in my mates Disco as to not waste the day completely.

We then get to the Wayfarers and not 5 minutes in we come across a lad on a motorbike who has come of and broken his leg sitting at the side of the track, so we manage to drag him across the backseat and get him back to the pub where they phone an ambulance, which took about an hour to get there and about half an hour to get him into the ambulance. At that time, it was time to go back to LLangollen and hook up the tow rope to my Disco and head home.

So we head back home about 40miles away and go straight to our Local garage that sorts our Landys out for us, and as soon as we get through the gate the tow rope snaps and my mate has steam pouring from under his bonnet!

Luckily it was only a split pipe, which Doug from the garage sorted out and re-filled with coolant and we were on our way home with my Disco sitting at the garage waiting for a new clutch to be fitted!

So going to cost £300 for my new clutch tomorrow which ok is a pain in the ass, but for a clutch, is a good price, it was not a great first experience Green Laning!

Despite what happened, I am looking forward to getting out again when my clutch is sorted and having another go!

Is it just me that thinks the shear drops of the wayfarer is terrifying, I was winging like a baby, but think it might have been because I was not in control of the car going around!

What a day! Glad to be home!

Oh dear :(

Flying slate :(
Smoking tyres :(
Not the way to responsibly lane :(
Greenlaning in a single vehicle :(

But on a plus note well done for helping a man in need

Please don't take from this that we were irresponsible drivers, we do respect the lanes and are not a part of the group of idiots who are ruining the lanes, going off track and leaving the gates open. It was just so wet and slippy it was litterally full throttle to get up this "one part" of the lane

We then get to the Wayfarers and not 5 minutes in we come across a lad on a motorbike who has come of and broken his leg sitting at the side of the track

Was there no phone signal - ring the emergency services from where he was with a view to getting a helicopter there??

Well done for getting him sorted in the end though!

Im with Deasy, dosent sound like responsible laning to me. :(

Just take it easy, slow and methodical or a little run up is usually all thats needed. If its getting to the point where your going no where and the lane is getting damaged then you need to turn back.

Glad you got the injured trail rider off the lane though, good stuff. Its not a good idea to ride or lane on your own for that reason. Thats why we say never go alone. If it had been you guys hurt there would have been no one to see you right.

Hope the clutch is sorted.

Not the best first laning experience but one to remember then!!

We like laning around that area so give us a shout next time perhaps we can team up. :D

Yes that would be awesome! Would be good to tag along with someone who knows what they're doing as it's all still new to us!

Honestly mate the only thing getting damaged was the tread on my tyres and my clutch! But I do agree with you somewhat, I should have just got my mate to winch me up as I was pushing the car further than it wanted to go. Still have pretty much zero experience between us though so we are looking forward to getting the hang of it!

Clutch will be sorted tomorrow, apparently it was shredded... oh, and was a Brit Part! In going a Valeo though so shouldn't be happening again any time soon!

Cheers mate! Yeh I kinda do, don't want anyone getting the wrong idea from the post!

Would love to get out with some folks from here. Certainly fun, but very worrying hobby to get into! Especially without anyone with experience.

I love LZ. :D

I got it wrong on my first outing on this forum. I asked the questions i slate newbies for now.

If we all took a little time to research things and look a little harder before jumping with both feet then maybe there wouldn't be so many mistakes made?

no one has said the OP is a menace or one of the mad 4 mud hooligans but a little guidance in what is correct is all. A little education goes along way, some people simply don't know rather than actually want to churn up lanes.

Well the only thing you need now is lessons low range need not damage a clutch off-road unless it was knackared before.

Fit new clutch and come out again this time stick to low 2nd and 3rd diff lock and you shall be fine no more smoking clutches!

Well done and enjoy but please be careful, your actions are representing us all!!
