I'm selling the roof rack and access ladder so if anyone's interested PM me, i will list it separately soon.

I want a perfect finish on the paint so I'm planning a full DIY respray. Ive only resprayed very few plastic body parts before so my experience is limited but im very patient and determined to do a good job. Could anyone give me some advice on how to treat the rust and actually doing the respray for a factory (or better) finish...

Opinions welcome on the photos.

:welcome2:Nicley sorted motor that mate. What colour you respraying it?What you using the landy for?

Nice lookn motor, don't need a respray, save your money for an engine swap and a new rear crossmember! Where are you? might help if yer trying to get rid of bits seeing as they probly wunt fit in an envelope!

I wanted to re-spray my landy when I first got it but have since realised its quite nice not to worry about tight lanes!!

Spend the money on making it a solid, reliable landy then maybe respray in time!

There are some pics of mine on some pages on that site...

Thanks for the comments, there is a bit of a wurring sound coming from the gear box which is only there in high ratio and squeaks on full lock either way, any ideas?

Where to start comes to mind when looking at it now :(

Needs new doors and i will be doing a full respray. Front floor are relatively solid i think someone has bolted down new metal, some holes through to the floor. Whats the best way to treat rust. I really want to get it rust free but dnt have all the $ in the world atm (student).

Advice on respray would be greatly appreciated still.

Could be the clutch bearings?

I wouldn't know i've only ever changed my break pads and replaced wishbones on my old car, so i think ill run it until it breaks and then try and fix it :p

How often does the cambelt need changing on 1 of these? The rust is depressing me but i did expect it. How easy is it to strip it down to the chassis and send it off to be blasted/galvd. would cost about £200 would it not?

the squealing at full lock will be the power steering pump check the fluid level. If thats not it do a search on here tons of threads on it.

i sometimes wud agree with saving money, but i dont d wot i say haha. My 90 is a lovely shade of faded 24 yr old brown... so im painting mine now, i dont even mind about the dents, i just need a change of colour!! a tack cloth some 400 + 1200 grit wet/dry and the paint n primer is the basics.. but i wud go all out for a nice DIY finish!

Love the landy mate. i have one the same with the 300 tdi engine. good times. my paint work needs some work doing on it and the stickers up the side are worn away want to replace them but dont know were!
how much are you selling your roof rack 4 and how would i get it!

nice one

tis odd how some people think ......

this is a tired, rust ridden landy with a noisy gearbox, holes in the floor and has an engine that'll probably start waving the white flag at 150K (if it gets that far)

and yet he's wanting to re-spray it

yer i guess if it's going to be parked on the drive having failed it's MOT it's better if it looks "nice"

point. mine is all good atm. other than that sticker... you dont know were i can get one? do you ?

You need to get some galv tub cappings before throwing any new paint on it by the looks of things.

what a coincident, i have a land rover the same model as yours and i re-sprayed four months ago. It was done by an experience body man. what i saw him did for the body which is aluminum grind it until it's shiny an apply the primer, base coat and a H2 clear coat (better and shiny clearcoat). Now for the chasis, you will need to get down there and use a wire brush and brush whatever rust you can get out, you might even what to tap it with a hammer to get the big chunck of rust out. after that apply Ospho (commercial name, not quite sure if you'll find it in the UK) on it and leave it for overnight and then come back and paint it with and an oil base/laquerer black paint twice. Then you will see how shiny and clean it looks at the bottom just like if it left the factory yesterday.
