My Discovery 3 TDV6 HSE

Day off today and fed up with how dirty it was decided it was time to raid the other half’s car cleaning cupboard.









Might be sunny but still chilly out



Also at 5’11” still needed some assistance with the roof


After two coats of pre-wash and wheel cleaner it was time for a snow foam





First wash done, needs a proper full de-contamination but for now it’s an improvement.







Quite why someone decided a number plate required 6 Velcro pads I will never know.
Also stick GB stickers should be illegal



Some tardis, hair dryer and a lot of elbow grease later



Could finally do what I’ve wanted to do since I bought it





Clearly 13 years ago 21 year old me didn’t think I’d ever have a Discovery this new


Tomorrow lazy day has been cancelled as made a deal on a new set of boots for the old girl

Took the disco for a little run up north this morning



Not bad for 70mph I’m cruise the whole way



All so I get collect these



Having lunch then time for the 240 miles drive back home

what’s the tyre side wall rating please, is it 106 , are those range rover rims

what size are they plse , thks

suprising how far we will travel for items

don’t forget , watch out for potholes , lol

Thanks mate, was eyeing up some 21’s but always fancied these rims so when I mint set came up I went for it.

Yes Range Rover Stormer wheels I believe, came off a very nice Supercharged Sport who had upgraded to 22’s

Done 400 miles according to the guy I got them from and I’m inclined to believe him.





Yes great distances, especially when the location on eBay is wrong and they are actually a further 85 miles away from you than you thought!

Left house at 07:45, arrived back at 19:15 lol.

God yes I’m dreading that. Smacked a massive pothole 20 minutes from home that made me think I broke the car in half!
And that was on the chunky 255/55/19 tyres

Wheels are in the garage now as still gotta replace the rear arms and get the tracking sorted.

Plus new issue on way home with the brakes. Could hear a light grinding noise when slowing down for junctions.



Thinking the pad is very low on the drivers side and is eating into the disc

Crap!!!! No warning on the dash.

Ok so going to be changing the front brakes on Saturday. Probably gonna be going for the V8 upgrade with drilled and grooves discs along with green stuff ebc pads.
Unless of course I happen to get a supercharged Brembo brake kit setup and they are easy to fit lol

as i assume u will be fitting new tyres as there no good for ur D3 , tyre sidewalls fitted on a D3 must have a min weight rating of 111T

there’s an option ref the brake pad warning in a diagnaosric reader , can turn them on or off

are u doing the wishbones urself

V8 brakes will fit , the wheels just have 18” and bigger and think ur ok there, lol

can’t remember which wheel the brake pad wires are on as i don’t think it’s all x4

have a read on the D3 forum ref drilled and groved discs, they can crank and get mud/stones in them off road , but plse have a read on the forum

i feel a right misery saying that about ur tyres and the drilled discs

sorry mate , think u would rather know and would have felt really bad not saying anything , as if god forbid u had an accident with those tyres ur ins could refuse to pay out due to there rating

ref ur tyres , radius should be a maximum diameter of 31.6 inches , huge amount of info on the D3 forum

Do plan on doing them myself along with the the brake lines in due course when I have the cash spare.

Yer the drilled brakes is a bit of a difficult one. On one side they can get damaged easier and on the other they are proven to aid cooling which was my main reason for wanting them.

Looking on black circles it list 106 rating tyres for all Land Rover’s which doesn’t help me much.

the other guys will know ref the sensors, i haven’t got round to my brakes yet, lol

have now got my rear upper genuine wishbones and the 6x rear brake line hoses , all my pads are ok but also plan to replace all 4 x discs and pads inc sensors in the summer

i also like the drilled discs until i read about the issues ref ingress of mud / splitting between the drilled holes,

will find the info for u ref the tyres so u have it for future use

don’t forget ur range rover storm rims are fine

Was going to go with rrs wishbones after been told they last longer.
Probably leave the rear brakes for now, should be good for this year, along with the hand brake with any luck.

yep, the RRS are the ones for the rear uppers, please don’t forget all new nuts and bolts

u will have to disconnect the brake hose for the rear upper , plus some coppaslip

hopefully u can just fit new pads unless the discs are that bad

christ i hope i don’t sound like telling u how to suck eggs

if it’s any use i posted the brake guide in the services guides that was done by another guy from the D3 forum, fantastic write up , shows u how to grease and adjust the EPB to maintain it

Yer probably gonna get them from advance factors who supply the bolts and bits.

Yes remember reading though the guides in the past. Will be having another look through them again in more detail as and when I get on with the job

indeed ref advanced, really nice guy and peace of mind for parts etc

i did print the guide out and got some clear folder sleeves as we all know how greasy the pages get , lol

plse don’t forget some piccies, will need some further insperarion when i do mine

have also bought from advanced new front / rear heavy duty drops links and front / rear anti roll bar bushes , thought i may as well do them at the same time

Chaps, forgive a numpty question: why use RRS suspension components - are they better than the D3 originals?

So are 106 rated tyres only good for Range Rover sports? Didn’t think there were be much weight difference
