Hi everyone

Basically i bought a R reg Discovery 300tdi 2 days ago, and yesterday i jumped in at 7 am for work, it fired up straight away and i drove to work and back which is 80 miles away and it was perfect i love the thing it drives perfectly with no unusual noises etc, but today i got up for work and it would not start
it just turns and turns and wont even try

i had the AA come out, he opened bonnet looked and said (i don't really no much about these), he then towed me round the block twice and said sorry cant help..... Thanks a bunch mate lol ...

anyway i put another 15 litres of diesel in just to be safe, still nothing, so one of my friend came through, and he seems to think the lift pump has gone,
as if you take the pipe off which goes from the lift pump to the diesel filter then prime the lever there's no diesel comes out of the pipe... would this be correct

i appreciate the help people,

also the red light goes out as it should when you put the key in the ignition, so im assuming the immobiliser is not at fault.

thanks again

If you crack an injector nut ,does fuel appear?ie is fuel getting as far as the injectors?
If not work back thru the fuel system...tank-sedimenter-lift pump-fuel filter-solenoid on injection pump. Also check all fuel pipework for leaks and air ingress, including leak off pipes(air not allowed).Good luck,I would guess that it is an easy fix once you know whats at fault.

Not being funny mate but it sounds like you need to get a decent mechanic on it !! It will be simple for someone who knows where to look ! If you have messed with the fuel lines lift pump etc the system needs to be bled properly !
There's lots of things it could be !
Ask on here for help in your area , if you want to try fixing it then bleed the fuel filter lock the bleed nipple and keep pumping the lift pump ! Make sure the pump is not on the cam, (. If you can't get a full stroke on pump rotate crankshaft a bit !! Make sure there's power to your stop selonoide on inj pump , you can use a bulb to check for 12v!
Check feed to glow plugs with a bulb or multimeter, if it still doesn't start take stop selonoide out and check its operation by connecting 12 v , it should pull the small plunger in !! If not its fooled !!
Good luck !!

Immobiliser would give that issue... i had that after changing engines - turned out id forgotten to connect an earth on the immobiliser - but - it was working "normally" ... worth checking it over or just removing it...

cheers for info lads iv ordered a spider bypass just for the sake of ordering it really, get a tester tomorow to see if i have power to the stop solenoid, im just a bit worried as mines a 3 wire anti tamper solenoid, i was told to gently chisel the cover off and there should be a single wire stop solenoid underneath the cover like the earlyer type, is this correct ? thanks again lads.

Also check the 10A fuse on the bottom row. (not entirely sure what it fuses exactly)
Mine blew a few months ago and just cut out on me at a set of lights for no obvious reason! Been fine ever since.

thanks again for info lads, can i not just chisel the cover off the anti tamper proof solenoid? iv read you can but im a bit worried i might damage something under it... also is it just a normal 1 wire solenoid hiding underneath the anti tamper proof cover. thanks
