My bonnet

So here's a pic of my bonnet, a rather sexy one, apart from 2 things, the 2 rubber grommets in the middle. Obviously previous owner didn't put the wheel mount back on when it was repainted and welded the rivet holes and put those grommets on the bolt holes which really annoys me.
I see there are 3 options
Plates under the holes, fill, sand repaint, lot of work for little reward
Replace bonnet, more cost similar amount of work to paint replacement bonnet.
Just put bonnet mount on , even if I don't put the wheel there it will look right.
If I do put wheel there it has more benefits;
Increased upper body strength
Increased value as we all know landys with wheel on bonnet are worth twice as much
Women will see me driving a landrover with a spare wheel on the bonnet and want to have sex with me (it may be a deluded fantasy but it's my deluded fantasy so please don't spoil it)
Any other options?

You need a bonnet with a recess in it to facilitate the spare wheel. Look out for an old military one.

For a deluxe bonnet you do the razor edge are lower and don't need it, this one's had one of before and has the strengthener underneath

One of these would cover the "ugly" holes and garner some attention

Just paint them body colour and get over your inadequacy. There's, loads more to fix I am sure.

Fit a bonnet spare mount, it will look right and be right. My 63 2a Razor bonnet has one and there are no rubber support washers fitted around the mount.
They were not needed for the 600x16 tire standard on 88's of that time.

My tyres are 650 so might need the rubbers

Just get the bloody thing dirty like a proper LR

It does get dirty, but it gets cleaned as well.

You wont need the rubbers, there is not much between 600 and 650 tires. 750's do in my experience.

I thought the rubbers were for when the tyre was flat? I didnt think any of them needed the rubber when an inflated tyre is fitted but when the tyre is flat the steel rim sits on the bonnet as it is not supported by an inflated tyre. The rubbers sit under the rim to prevent this in the event of a puncture. Or have I been misled!

As far as I know, the rubber bungs are there to stop the tyre rubbing the paint on the bonnet through vibration.
The bonnet skin is only made from soft alloy, so no reason a tyre could rub right through it over time without the rubber bungs.

Never tried putting a flat tire on the bonnet, just chucked em in the back.

Well if that is the case they defintily do not work on mine. I have a deluxe bonnet with 750 xzl’s and the edge lugs still contact the bonnet. I get a very nice pattern in the grub that likes to collect in the dished wheel well when I remove the spare.

It does, wider than standard rims, as far as I can remember.

6.5 width I believe. But surely that should mean there is less of a sidewall bulge on a 750 than a narrower rim.

Standard rim is 5.5 inches wide. Tyre bulge is up to the make of tyre, and tyre pressure.

Surely the same tyre on different rim widths has an effect and the wider the rim the smaller the sidewall bulge. That is why the silly boy racers and their ‘stretched’ tyres look so terrible:

The deluxe bonnet is more or less flat in the wheel well so 7.50 tyre will rub. On a razor type the curve of the bonnet prevents the smaller 600/650 tyres from touching.
