MT82 in Defender same as Transit?

Just asking because a mate has smashed the side of his gearbox in when UJ totally failed [ don't think the garage who service it for him own a grease gun ] and warning signs were blamed on an exhaust bracket.
I know the final output is different [ the bit that causes problems in landys and his was well worn at some 80k ] Asking because we see a price difference for landy and tranny recons.

I recon then most folks on this form like myself know what's what about older models. My knowledge start's with late series ones and goes through to some about TD5, after that===

Yer but only the bits which are the same as the older ones. The only thing I know about the gear box is its made by Getrag. Can't answer tottot's question.
