Anyone know if the vehicles colour has to match the colour stated on the log book, for the MOT?

Im finally ready to get my Defender resprayed, from white to Bonatti grey. Problem is, my MOT is due in about 4 weeks. If I get it resprayed first, I wont have enough time to send off my log book to inform DVLA of the colour change before the MOT. But Im too excited about getting it resprayed to wait:(

Should I wait and get the MOT done first?

Simple answer: no

Bit more detail: so long as the chassis number matches up and goes through the basic checks the MoT guy does, you should be okay. He might choose to mention the colour change as an advisory, but its very unlikely especially if you have a chat and give a plausible explanation. Obviously, I'm assuming your car isn't a ringer.

No, not a ringer, just never liked the colour. The MOT testing garage kinda know me as Ive used them for the last few years, so they know everything will be above board. But I dont think that would stop them from failing it, if they had reason.

Nice to know I can go ahead with the respray. Thanks for your reply Paul:)

If it still has MOT on it the take it now. You can test it upto 1 month before it is due and still keep the remainder.
So if it has a month now and it passes today the MOT will run for 13 months.

The MOT tester can change the colour for you on his computer(I think)
When I took my landy up for MOT it was still listed as a diesel, the tester just changed it on his computer to a petrol.
