The silver sloth failed it's MOT with flying colours today on the following-3 amigos, front n/s abs sensor cable excessively damaged (see previous item),offside rear position lamp adversely affected by operation of another lamp (when lights on tail light goes out if braking),offside front coil spring fractured, nearside front cv gaiter buggered, fuel filter leaking (from water trap at bottom),steering box leaking significantly.
any advice on repairs needed or set light to the ****er ???

That's a good MOT test. Mine failed on 26 Different things. Took one at a time soon got through. Start with easiest. New fuel filter. only a few quid. maybe back lights will only be bad earth. ABS Sensor. don't know what that entails but sounds easy if you source a new one. CV gator. Bit more complicated if you not got the tools. Maybe leave that to the garage to repair. or I'm sure you can get a cover that just fits over the old one then fits together. Coil springs order a couple of new ones should be straight forward enough. If You use spring compressors then use three when taking them off. As it's safer than two.

Good luck with it.

Look after it to start with, that may help.
When things break, fix it.
Give it a check over before you book it in, & fix it.

IT'S NOT ROCKET SCIENCE !

You're probably not going to like this Clive, but that test result is a terrible indictment of your lack of care and attention to your vehicle.

Imo you need to apply the philosophy of preventative maintenance to LR's, yours' sounds like it's not had much attention at all.

Do you do your own maintenance or let a garage do it?

Sorting out the front springs is straightforward and cheap enough, lights are almost certainly a bad earth, the three amigos can be caused by loads of things but in your case it sounds like damaged wiring, so a new sensor plus wiring will sort that, replace the fuel filter for a quality marque one. The steering box and it's pipes need looking at carefully before a resolution plan can be formulated.

PS I'm assuming it's a Disco II, but you didn't say:(:(

I have always maintained my beloved disco 2 myself wherever possible but work at the moment is hectic so trusting it to a garage this time.
Big lad.....I'm really insulted but how can preventative maintenance stop parts wearing out such as ABS sensors etc ?What preventative maintenance can be done on the steering box ???
