Listen I agree with them I've got a sledge hammer since about 15 years, it's had two new handles and about 5 new heads the thing is just as brand new, I can see perfectly well where LRO are coming from.

Andy:amen:

Tis a ****e rag (although i still get it!) - they wasted 4 pages on (front cover "how to get 25% more mpg out of your land rover" then you go to the article and find it's firstly all about a gaylander and second all about how you have to switch the engine off at the lights, and drive at 46 on the dual carriageway, and not have passengers, and only half fill the tank etc - utter ****e!

Just been having a scan through the Jan issue of LRO and came across what seemed like an interesting article entitled "The Half Million Mile 110". They're claiming that this blokes 110 has done 500, 000 miles but there's a bit of a cock up in my opinion. First, and not surprisingly it's had three different engines, a new back axle, numerous bodywork changes etc etc, not unusual for a 110 from the eighties. Problem is about ten years ago he's also replaced the chassis with one from a crash damaged 110 that he obtained second hand, repaired and had galvanised. Now if it had been a new chassis this would have been fine, however what he's actually done is created a ringer, which should probably be on a Q plate, and definitely not still on his original registration. Half a million mile 110 my arse. Wonder if the DVLA read LRO?
Well if that upsets you, and rightly so BTW, check out this months star letter, the writer has been well and trully stitched up by a chassis swap, and is utterly sickened by the experience, doesn't want a landie ever again,
...so what do LRO do? simple! they award him with a wheel cover to stick on his defender that he can't use and don't want(how thoughtfull:rolleyes: ) and get back to a balanced editoralship (or is that to maintaining doublestandards?) and print as follow up article after readers letters the said 500,000 mile chassis swap frakenstein 110 story.
This is an important letter read it, esp. BoB, you seem to be getting a right kick-in for your views about this topic...you have a good point, although i think LRO are getting off a bit lightly here don't you?

Have just joined the forum they seem ok on there but even on their own forum there gettin slated for mistakes all over the place!

techincaly it doesn't make it a ringer as at the time it was built up with original parts fromt the original vehicle, the points system means you can change the chassis and still keep the original reg etc as long as you can still make enough points from the remaining components, i.e. body, axles, etc

Without wanting to take sides on this G-man, pikey etc are right on the chassis being able to be swapped. As pointed out vehicle identity is also calculated on points for original components. The number of components changed could well mean that this vehicle is unable to retain it's current I.D.. It could also mean that it can. The chassis holds the greatest number of points but I am led to believe thatif a part is swapped for another part of the same spec it doesn't alter the points on that part. I could be wrong though but that's what I've been led to believe.
