Disco 2 Modding my D2

So, I am currently designing a rear shelf for the boot for my dog to sit on, so that I can still have my kit in the boot.

This shelf needs to be light or easy to take apart, because sometimes it will need to be removed so that I can use the 6th and 7th seat.

I have been looking at rack shelving on ebay (http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/360951609979?_trksid=p2060353.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK:MEBIDX:IT), the metal looks like a big mechano set which I can put together how I want, it looks strong and hopefully it won't be too heavy.

And because I can bolt it together, I will be able to add to it in the future (ie make a top shelf for extra storage).

Had a busy day on Sunday fixing things and replacing things.

I thought replacing an oil seal would be a nice quick job, turned out I had to do more work than planned, see my thread
Annoyed with Trader, Leaking Front Diff

Anyway, after fixing the above I fitted a snorkel :)

I also cleaned all the air intake pipes and gave the k&n air filter a good clean.

Nice snorkel...is that from JGS4x4 as well? I covered mine in the 'makes plastic like new' stuff and I think it helps preserve the colour. Nice colour car by the way!

Thanks. No, it's from ebay, was only £70, looks exactly the same as the safari snorkel only a lot cheaper. I might try that plastic like new stuff too.

I built my boot shelf the other day, I will post a picture of it soon.

It's just so I can get my dog in the boot and keep all my kit in there at the same time.

This weekend I am going to do the EGR and waxoil it, and change the engine oil and filters.

Gave the engine a good hot pressure wash to get rid of all the oil and crap!

I think the engine may have an oil leak, but I couldn't tell from where, so now that it's all clean I will have another look this weekend and will hopefully be able to see where the oil is coming from.

So, after having a new clutch fitted, another oil seal in the front diff, and having some oil seals replaced in the transfer box, here is the outcome.

clutch now seems really good.

Transfer box and front diff still leaking.

A few months back I replaced a really buggered UJ in the front prop. I'm beginning to wonder if the vibration pre new UJ has done some damage to the bearing in the front diff, which is making it leak. However, in a few months the front axle will be coming off to have some work done to it, along with the back diff, when I upgrade the suspension.

The transfer box will be coming off again, but this time by me. After speaking to a few people on here, it may be the the intermediate shaft is causing the t/box to leak oil.

So, work is happening, but slowly. It's shame I'm having to spend my time and money getting the transmission to work and stop these bloomin oil leaks, I'd much rather be spending my time and money on lift kit, tyres, wheels, diff locks, etc etc ... but before all of that I guess the car needs to be working properly.

TBC

I have spent a small fortune the last few days.

I have just bought a 20 ton press, and loads of little bits for my D2.

I have also been given 2 books, the haynes manual and the workshop manual.

things are starting to move again after a slow start to the year.

Replaced the front and rear diff filler plugs with some nice new brass plugs.

I nearly destroyed the front filler plug last weekend when checking the oil level. It was extremely awkward to get off and I don't want to have the hassle again when changing oil etc.

nice new 1's

Very nice, did you get a good deal, I am thinking of getting a press soon.

Had not noticed that the diff plugs were plastic, Will have to go look at mine, good idea to change them.

Cheers

got the press off ebay for £120 odd squid.

got the brass plugs off ebay for about a fiver. I wouldn't bother changing them unless you have to do some maintenance on the diffs, but defo get the brass plugs and have them sitting around ready for when you need them cus those plastic 1's are crap and can get destroyed when taking them out!
