Hi, looking for advice on the above. Just bought a 2004 FL Td4 HSE. Lovely condition, everything works - apart from the slightly fooked powerfold mirrors - not too worried about that though, fix or replace!
BUT there is always a snag isn`t there?. The "security" card is of course missing. Radio/satnav is working so not a huge problem I know but as I wish to fit a hard wired `phone kit the battery may need to be disconnected. Need to have the code for that, over the years I have had cars with missing codes but found then in funny places.....last four numbers of the vin in reverse order etc, sometimes on a sticker on the unit itself!!. any tips on the Land Rover?? or is it a main dealer job, do they charge & if so how much?. I recently had to take my teenage sons Corsa to the Vauxhall MD for a lost code, the service guy just looked it up on his computer and even reset the code himself - free of charge!!.
The locking wheel nut key is present but of course the number isnt, any way of finding out what it might be in case I ever need a replacement??
Finally the car came with two working fobs but only one key, need to get a second one. Last summer I had to get a new transponder key for my other son who also has a Corsa as the key broke in half. I was visisting him down south ( he is in the RN) and I had to get it sorted for him. A local locksmith/motor factor type place supplied two keys coded from the broken one for under £40, am I likely to be this lucky with the LR or will it be MD again??? If it is anything like my B6 Passat it will have to come from Germany, take weeks and cost nearly 200 notes. Can you help or advise guys????

Not sure about the keys, but if it's anything like VX, then a replacement code card will set you back £25.
The VX code cards have, alarm code, immobiliser code, radio code, VIN and 1 other that I can't remember off the top of my head.
I would say, just phone land rover an ask them.

Take your reg docs to the main dealer (proof of ownership) and ask them to give you the codes ,a couple of minutes on the computer is all it takes ,James Edwards Landrover in Chester did'nt charge me,but they did say that code cards were'nt issued with later landrovers(dont know if that's correct).Dont know about the key sorry.

Have phoned the MD and the lad to be fair was very helpful.
Transponder key; £102 for the key and £40 to be coded, prices approximate but around £150 all in., and yes they come from germany and have to be paid for up front.A chunk of cash I know but I might live to regret not getting one if the Mrs snaps the only key in the fuel filler cap or something.
Radio code; He said he could give the code based on the vin no. but that would not take in to account the possibility of a warranty replacement having taken place in the life of the car so he needs the serial number from the unit itself, something to do with it being the navigation type unit. Did they often go faulty and need warranty replacement I wonder??
Locking wheel nut key, These are the less than brilliant system Rover type that are easily damaged by overenthusiastic use of air tools apparently. There is a number stamped on the key itself and also a letter stamped on the rim of the nut that together identify which key pattern is the correct one.
Will post when I get it sorted.....
