Morning, my locking wheel nut key doesn't seem to be present since i bought the car, came to take a wheel off today and can't find it. i could go somewhere to have them removed but i'd like a replacement key ideally as it is probably cheaper. i don't have the security card that gives the key code either!!
its seems there are 10 types of key so does anyone have a picture of the different styles of key so i can match it or alternatively give me a best guess on which mine is (photo attached). Ebay has them listed but has the same photo for each code!!
cheers in advance

Steve

Can't help with pictures of all, besides the distance between the key pins is the critical bit and they are all very similar. However, I have a number of keys with codes on. If you provide the measurement between the centres of the pins, I will check the keys I have and see if I can find a match.

You might be able to cut a couple of suitable sized nails down, place them in the recesses and then find a tight fitting socket ??

I hate locking wheel nuts as they're far more likely to leave you stranded than protect your wheels.
First thing I do with any new car is dump them.
I must admit I've always dumped them on my Freelander 1s, except when I had my lovely Sport rims. I've still got them on my FL2, but only because I'm too tight to spend £40 on 4 new wheel nuts.

cheers dude, i'll get my vernier gauge out shortly.

Best thing is to get 5 standard replacements and a Irwin nut extractor to get them off.

When a tyre monkey stripped my locking nut, I got the standard replacements and took the car to my local LR stealers as they are supposed to carry all the locking nuts. They really are not interested in F1 and had long since ditched their locking nuts. However, they did remove them for me with one of those Irwins and I followed the guy round putting on the replacements.

They didn't even charge me for it ;)

Good call, i've got a set of irwins in the garage, i'll see if they are a good fit, i'll try the spare wheel one first!!

I ditched my locking wheel nuts a while ago, and then chucked away the socket. A couple of days later I realised I'd forgotten the spare wheel locking nut. It was not fun going through the kitchen bin to find the socket!

unfortunately my Irwins are too small for the spare wheel locking nut!!! might see if i can find a single one, the case has space for more irwins in different sizes

nice one, i've measured and it seems to be around 17.76mm between the centres of the pins, but hard to measure. and i make it 18.40mm between the nearest edges of the pins, if that makes sense. interestingly i noticed that the spare wheel locking nut, as per my original picture is stamped with an A , i wonder if that is a giveaway, surely LR wouldn't have stamped them.

It appears that LR did stamp the number on the wheel lock nuts. Yours is key pattern A, which means you can order a new key.

you'd think that would a strange thing to do lol. i'll check the others later to see they are all the same and if the others are stamped, then order an A hopefully

The stamping is only small, and in normal use there are covers over the nuts, preventing someone studying the nut letter without being really obvious.

17.76 mm between pin centres is an A or code 56 according to the results of me rummaging through a box of mixed nuts !!
nice one, dude, that corresponds with whats stamped on the nut , i'm going to order one when i've checked the others. thanks so much for yours and everyones assistance.

might end up selling it shortly anyway as i've been offered a Defender 110 on a good deal
