Miles Miles Mi... Uh Oh

Gotta slight problem, my milage counter has stopped working. the trip one's dead too so i assume there connected. We've had it out at an indys (free look) and looked at it can't see any problems. Without cashing out, is there any connection under the bonnet i can look at myself?

no idea, could be either, just a clue would be great for both and i'll have a look. cheers in advance

it sounds to me like it aint the speedo - its the drive to it that is at fault.

Is the speedo actually working but just not recording miles? If so then its an internal problem in the speedo housing. There will be either a cable coming from the transfer box (pre 94) or a sender unit with wires attached on later models.

Yeh its not recording miles but still speed.

Guess its a sender unit, is that built into the transfer box?

Ah - i misunderstumbled. As Rev sez - the prob is almost certainly within the speedo unit.

No it sounds like your speedo is broken. There are gears that drive the odometer wheels and somethings worn out/broken/fallen off. The instrument binnacle can be taken out relatively easily (I think) if you are that bothered. It must be good having a vehicle that never clocks up any miles!

Mine was the opposit when it faulted no speedo and no mileometer and that was a broken cable.

200series have a cable, 300 series have a sender unit. Had a decent look in Haynes, bloody useless!

Yeh same, thinking of putting in an electric fan, clean the intercooler out whilst i do.

I don't think its a huge job, theres a few screws around the instrument cluster and the cover comes right off and theres a couple of bolts holding the instruments down. Probably just as easy to get one from a scrappy if its no good.

just get some new clocks easier to fit than to take old speedo apart wind them forward only to the correct mileage
