Brought my car to a mechanic so he could replace the front diff oil seal... he said he also topped the oil half a liter... he used a 80w mineral gl4 non-ep...

My question is if this half a litter (non-spec) gl4 oil can cause problems and if I should drain it and renew with the 75-90 ep gl5???

A GL4 mono grade oil with EP (Extreme pressure additives) is ok, there is no such thing as non EP with this type of transmission oil.
Modern vehicles now use a multi cradle GL4 or 5 depending on the manufacturs advice. Your owners hand book will advise on the grade to use.
The question is... Why did the mechanic not drain fully and refill with fresh oil, after all the diff only takes around 1.6ltr

why would he need to drain any out to change the seal , gl 4 is an ep oil just not as higher spec as gl5, diff would run on any gear oil too a great extent as its still basically a series 3 diff, but i would recommend changing yearly, cleanliness is as important as spec
