Probably old news to some of you, but I am also having a problem with starting the ol' girl, as well as the glitch with the lethargy that seems to have set in recently...........
She has a reluctance to start when WARM! First thing in the morning, wait for the glow-plugs to cycle, turn the key, Viola! sans problem! Tickety-boo. drive for, say, 20 miles, stop the car, park up, pop into the supermarket, or whatever, come back after 10 or 15 mins, and it acts as though the battery has **** itself, and has checked into the Betty Ford Clinic for some quality time with a therapist! Try again with the sequence for starting it, Ignition, Glow-plugs, Contact!..........Nuffin' try for a 3rd time, and it spins over like it's going into orbit! as if it's saying, " Whats all the fuss?" Heard one or two people say that it may be dirty connections on the starter, or battery......
Have had the battery checked........OK
had the terminals off the battery and cleaned 'em up proper.........OK
checked the condition of the wiring to the starter from the solenoid and battery........seem OK, no breaks.
But have not been able to have the connections off the starter as yet, as the ground is ****ed wet through, and i dont have access to a ramp, and I can't actually see the starter from the top, and lying in the Merde and Boué doesn't inspire me that much, as I do that for a living at the moment, so when i get home, i've seen enough!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Could it be the starter that has caught the last bus home?
Could it be a Schizophrenic Battery? I work, I don't..., I work..........
Could it be the starter solenoid?
Could Nicola Mclean win I'm a Celebrity, Get Me out of here? (hope so!)
Should i buy a Freelander? *ouch!* Wife slaps head!

Any thoughts?

Nick........

I'd start with the starter connections .. they've gotta be clean.

I'd also check any earth straps and if they're at all suspect I'd change 'em for new ones, or not even check them, just put new ones on!

Thanks Paul, Have removed the terminal wires from the starter, cleaned and re-fitted, and the same with the earth straps, but to be honest, they were in very good condition, and the earth straps seem new as they are still quite shiny, but the problem has not got any better..........

New starter?
