under middle seat in the cab.

just to point out - when i labelled the last pic,
'attachment into transfer box from underneath'
i didn't mean it connects to the underneath (which would be awesome if possible!)i meant the picture was taken from underneath, sorry for any confusion.

As winchs go they are indestructible but as said cant have winch and overdrive unless you have a bottom mount pto!
They are also very very slow and cumbersome.
But mine has helped me out twice whilst laning and my mate once as he got seriously stuck, again laning and there was no way you could get to him without a four wheel drive and a winch.
i would have the winch any day over an overdrive and fit 3.54 diffs from an early disco.
Winchs really rare, thought currently two complete set ups on ebay!, overdrives bit of a gamble buying a secondhand unit.
Probably be a better deal for you if you bought two second hand 3.54 diffs and a pto blanking rear plate all three for approx 90 quid and try and sell the winch, one on e bay last week went for 325 pounds.
You will have to offer a pallet courier though to get the best price, google shiply which i think is tied to ebay.
I got my winch shipped down from brummy.

thanks for the advice, it was my plan to put rangie diffs on my landie but, on another thread i was told that my standard 2.25 diesel would struggle to turn the wheels with them in,
could this be true?
i would love nothing more than to keep my 'power house' of a winch,
its nice when you see a nice kitted up defender and they get red faced when there winch dont seem so big anymore, and whats more, its on an ancient series 2a!! lol

hi nrgserv, how much woukld you want for the capstan winch, think it would look quite smart on the front of my series ;)
cheers :D
where are you?
i paid 75 quid for it years ago, and like i said a few posts ago, it will need the engage/disengage lever looking at.
would also need to find the original dog for the crank.

and i would need to remove it from its current home....

do we have a price on the mayflower yet, or is it now not for sale?

i'd rather have the capstan for my series, i havent got a pto, while i can get one id rather have something that will fit as it is and ive just got a massive ramsey winch to go in the back, so just need a small one for the front, i cant realy make an offer just yet, but its not going anywhere right now is it? if not then in a month or 2 i would be more inclined to put some money forward....
im in north somerset btw

time limits no problem, its been sat on the motor its attached to for the last 2 years in the corner of the workshop and aint moved.
north somerset's a fair trek, could you get any further away!

give us a shout when your ready with an offer.

If you use the fairey drop pto you can run a rear drive winch from the back output shaft on the pto as it will take a std pto flange, which iirc is the same as the front transfer box output flange.
So to run rear winch you engage the pto this would then drive the rear winch and if you fit the shear pin this will then drive the front winch.
