Does anyone know of a way to add a manual shift to the D2 Auto. I’ve had it on my FL1 and BMW X3, very handy thing, is it possible with the D2s auto box?

Paul

You can use the 321 positions to manually downshift the gears- in 3 it will be locked out of 4th gear and only use 1st, 2nd and 3rd. I rarely find a need to manually upshift in an automatic- most of the time you want to kick it down a gear in preparation for overtaking, for example. The TCU will intervene to prevent a downshift it that would mean overspeeding the engine.

There is also the mode switch, which switches to Sport mode in high range, and manual mode in low range. Here the D321 selector will choose the numbered gear if the engine speed allows it (D selecting 4th gear in this case.) So by doing some wiring, you could have a manual mode option in high range if you really wanted to.

No offence, but that’s not what I asked. I wanted a manual gear changer, like a triptonic shift, to change gear when I want to change them.

Buy a manual  ?

check out Ashcroft compushift, see if it fits what you want and can fit.

Can’t drive a manual, my left knee is fookt. As far as I know Compushift doesn’t allow you to change gears manually just set when gears change themselves. One good thing about the Freelander 1 is the manual shift option on the auto box.

Everything is doable but IMO you better stick to the Fl1 or BMW to shift gears as a hobby and let the D2 be cos it's a different kind of vehicle

Not really. You can also shift in the D3, D4 etc and the Range Rover L323 etc. Are they different types of vehicles?

IMO the D2 was the last of LRs which can be named "off-road vehicle" based on it's look and how it was built... all the newer modells are more in the "SUV" cathegory... but i'm subjective ;)

So, like I suggested, modify the wiring so that the TCU thinks its in low range, then when you press the mode switch, you will have manual selection via the D321 positions.
