Good Evening everyone,

I am the pround owner of a 200 tdi but i have serious electrical fault with the truck. The following do not work unless they have a direct live feed being fed to the fuse board:

Heaters
Headlights
Electric windows
wind screen wipers
radio
rear windscreen wipers
rear washer jet
front washer jets

does anyone know if this is a common problem or has anyone had this problem before?

Does anyone know how to fix this issue??????????????

Any help will be greatly recieved

As suggested above, Three times, It's almost certainly your fusible links at fault.
These things

Common problem on a 200tdi.
They're located in the main battery positive cable about 4-500mm along from the battery terminal. Work along the cable until you find a lump in the cable and unwind the wrapping.
Sort out what you find.
Normally the links are in poor condition due to corrosion.

thank you all i will investiagte :)

While you're investigating it would also be worth checking the main body earth from the battery.
Go to the -ve terminal on the battery and follow the black cable back until you find the earth connections. Just undo them, clean contact surfaces to bright metal and re-assemble.
Best of luck

evening all,

I have checked the fuseable links and when i undone the cables protective cover i found piles of green sherbert (nakered copper cables or fuses).

I have reeplaced this with 30amp cabling and everything is now working. The only issue now is the battery light is on. could this be the battery its self or related item I.E. alternator

Something with the charging system........your battery will go flat

You should have replaced the fusible link with a new 1 and not solid 30 amp cable.....That could work out a very expensive repair for you as the fusible links are there to protect the fusebox and onboard electronic systems.....IMO....rip the wire out ASAP and fit a new fusible link.

Not such a good idea to replace the damaged fusible links with 30A cable.
Much the same effect as replacing a household fuse with a nail.
You would be much better going back and fitting an in-line fuse into each replacement cable. Fuses rated at 20A.
Another alternative is to fit an under-bonnet fusebox from a scrap 300tdi and wire the fusible link circuits thro that.
The battery light being on, if it wasn't before tends to suggest you have a bad connection somewhere. I would look at the connections on the back of the alternator and the alternator cable connection to the battery +terminal.
Did you check the main body earths as previously advised?
Unfortunately there is the possibility that you alternator diode pack is on its way out, light on is usually an indication.

What some folks do when trying to resolve this problem is to get hold of a TDi 300 engine bay fusebox (from a breakers), then you'll have a much more modern and safe system.
