Hi All

The driver side main beam is not working on my 2001 Disco. The parking light works fine and the main beam and bright is working on the other one.
I have spots and these do not work at all anymore, so I am guessing there is a link.

I have replaced, the 3 plug adaptor at the rear of the light as the other one looked blown and have checked the fuse under the steering column.

Any ideas?

Thanks.

There are two fuses for the main beam headlights in the passenger compartment fuse box; fuse 3 (10 Amp) for the left hand side and fuse 22 (10 Amp) for the right hand side. These are for the main beams only, the dipped beams have their own fuses too.

By the sound of it you might have lost the fuse 22, most of the time it would be easier to make the connection between the main beam wiring and the spotlamps circuit on that side of the vehicle.

Hi, thanks for the replies. I have checked both the fuses and they all seem to be fine.

Both dipped and main beam are not working. Only the parking light comes on, the smaller bulb.

If looking the socket front on, one on top and 2 on the side, then its the bottom right one. Black wire coming out the back..

Any questions, please let me know.

Thanks again.

Bad earth.

Thanks Datatek, how can I fix this? Please be as detailed as possible as I am pretty novice!
Look for the earth connection from the headlight bulb. It's only a suggestion, but if the earth is bad, often the parking bulb will work as it draws less current.
I'm not familiar with the Disco layout, but if RAVE is available for the Disco, it will show the wiring and earth points.

just confirm you checked the bulb too...as even if it sounds dumb you didnt mention it:eek:

take a voltmeter, select main beam and measure across the black wire(earth) and the other two terminals...if no voltage put the multimeter's negative lead to body and measure so...if there is voltage this way it's an earth issue(earth point for that lamp is under the battery cover toward the wheelarch) if no voltage either way we'll speak then

Hi Sierrafery

Thanks for the advice, I have replaced the bulb but still nothing, and have replaced the multiplug. I dont have a voltmeter so wont be able to do those tests.

In order to inspect the earth connection, would I have to take the battery out? Is it just underneath? Some other research has suggested taking this off and cleaning the connection of the earth?

Thanks again.

the earth rail is on top left side near the jack compartment, you must take just the battery cover off and see it, improvise a controll bulb with two wires and use it instead of voltmeter

Thanks. In that compartment I found 3 earths in a row, i took the top 2 off and gave them a clean but nothing has changed.

Thanks for the help. I will try and get my hands on a voltmeter.

Thanks, I have tried the top 2 earths, unscrewing them and reconnecting but they seem fine.

I will try get hold of a voltmeter to try and determine the problem.
