Hi all,

I stumbled across this item on ebay whilst looking for something entirely different. I am the ultimate sceptic and so I'm assuming that this is another snake oil product, but what do you all think? I'm fairly science-y myself, and I can see how in theory this 'might' work in theory, but I can't believe some of the claimed improvements in MPG. Surely if it was true then all manufacturers would install these as standard!?

Anyway, lets the flood gates open......

that science doesn't work for me. They're mixing up magnetic charge with electrical charge for a start, and I'm pretty sure fuel doesn't have ionizing molecules..... That's why water doesn't mix with fuel. (water is ionized)

and even if fuel was magnetic, magnetism doesn't work like that. A steel magnet isn't made of 'north pole' molecules at the top and 'south pole' molecules at the bottom. The individual molecules are all the same. The magnetic effect is a consequence of alignment of large numbers of molecules in the material.

Probably.

Hahahahahahahahaha, remember years ago when they tried to con everyone in the fishing fleet up here with this magnetic bollocks, how on earth can they make these claims also seen mythbusters try all these fuel saving schemes inc magnets, guess what-none worked.
Davie

The previous owner of 'The Beast' had strapped them all the way up the fuel line and it still drinks like Plymouth Slapper on a Saturday night out up Union Street.

If it's just a load of bollox I shall just cut them off.

This "technology" has been discussed before, we would all like some snake oil to make our landy's quicker, more reliable or faster but this kit is just junk, it doesn't work the theory is flawed and the claims have so many holes in them the're funny.
Look at it this way if these bits of magnet actually did anything at all wouldn't Ford, Toyota, Porsche etc etc be fitting them as standard?

This came up on a bike forum a few years back and they sent me a free set which I fitted to my car for a while to test - they made no difference at all, allowing them to advertise is criminal.

Came across this bo**ox years ago when I was running a Turkey farm.
This bloke came to the farm askin if we had trouble with lime scale in the water pipes?
Has it happened where I was in Shropshire the water was pretty hard.
He produced some red magnets to clamp on each of the water pipes saying the magnets realign the "ions" in the water so the lime scale doesn't stick.
I pointed out to him that iron not ions is affected by magnets and in any case lime scale is neither.
He just turned round and walked off :D

That are an absolute unadulterated load of crap. Total and utter bloody nonesense. Anyone who is fooled by that and pays out money for them, needs to be sectioned very quickly indeed.:mad::mad:

Looks like that blokes sold 2 of his fuel magnets.

Come on then. Out wiff it. Who bought them?

Yes it snake oil. And it ain't even new. Remember someone peddling that door to door even back in the '70s. Petrol prices were going crazy (or so the grown ups seemed to think ) and there was a lot of excited conjecture about this miracle solution even then.

Yeah `tis crap, He`s claiming "up to" x% increases not x% minimum garantees, then banking on punters not bothering to chase him too hard to get refunds of 20quid. He stands to loose few quid on postage only if determined people chase him, but bet most will kid themselves they weren`t conned and "hey! I`m sure it`s running smoother!"

only good thing a magnet is for on a motor is sticking on the diff (gearbox sump plug)sump,to catch any bits of iron based cogs swiming around..

As I mentioned in another thread.
A great use for magnets is attach them to your oil filter, have also wired mine on just in case road debris catches it.

Ensure during filter changes you leave the magnet attached until after you have removed the oil filter. (Ensures that metal bits stay put until after oil filter removal)

With all the magnets you describe, should be able to totally surround the filter with them :)

Cheers
