LT230 diff backlash.

I have a S3 with a 300TDI/R380/LT230 from a 95 disco.

Last year I fitted a recon transfer case which was great for a while but quickly developed a lot of backlash in the diff. Front front prop shaft makes a awful noise on overrun and light throttle, esp on the motorway. The problem disappears if I engage the diff lock. So, I’m pretty convinced it’s the centre diff.

Is there a way to adjust the centre diff to eliminate the backlash?

No there is not, you have rebuild it with something like this https://ashcroft-transmissions.co.uk/product/lt230-master-rebuild-kit/ in mine when it had the backlash those 4 copper washers were completely disintegrated and after the rebuild was much better but the backlash dissapeared completely just after i replaced the front diff too

I have subsequently watched some videos on YT an came to that conclusion.
Given that it was recon'd box & ok for a short while I wonder if the 8 bolts holding the diff together may have worked loose. It looks like I can't get to these by removing the sump so it'll need to go on the bench anyway.
With the parts to hand it looks like it should be do-able in a day.
