Hi. I’d really appreciate any advice with this.

I’m trying to change the alternator on a 2010 Discovery LR4 3.0 TDV6 XS.

I’ve got as far as removing the two panels underneath, slackening the belt and removing the main 3 bolts on the alternator. But now there’s no way I can get to the electrical connections or get the unit out.

I’ve watched a few youtube videos and theirs just drops out but I have a whole load of pipe in the way that they don't have and the electrical connections are completely inaccessible round the back.

Please can anyone help me with the next steps?

According to the WSM you have to remove the engine cover and cooling fan too as they show steps 6, 7 then maybe you'll get all the access you need

I think you remove elec connections once you have the alt free, make sure battery is disconnected.

Thanks. I spent all day yesterday underneath wrestling with it. Got the alternator free but still couldn't release the little wire round the back. Was terrified I'd snap it so put it all back together. All the video clips I've watched bring it out through the underside but mine is different. 'Sierrafery' suggests it should come out through the top but does anyone know if I take all the parts out will I be able to get better access to the electrical connections?

Hi. That really useful! I'm making progress. If you have a WSM please could you send me the section on removing the cooling fan or tell me where I can get one? Thank you, thank you!

Thanks to the 2 guys that helped! I finally managed it yesterday - it's been a real pig of a job but still faster than trying to get a local garage to do it...
