I have an LPG 4.0 Disco 2. It has problems, backfiring, crap economy and when cold it can cut out. I took it to my local lpg expert and he said I had a single point system that acted as if it was an old single carb confusing the hell out of my mordern managment causing all of my problems and that I should rip it all out and fit a multi-point injection system. Has anyone got any thoughts on the matter?

you don't say whether it has been running ok before cos if it was i'd say yer maun was talking **** and that you need to go to someone else

Once it is warm, it is good, I can't tell its runnig on lpg. But it is only doing 9mpg, and thats on a run!! When it is cold, it cuts out which is a worry cos it is as you are slowing down and need the brakes!! Thats the way it has been since we got it. Think you are right tho, i'll get a second opion.

i don't know enough about lpg to say anything certain about it. i would sugest you find out who serviced it for the po then ask them if all was ok with it. or if you can find out who fitted it take it there and see what they say about it(don't let on you know it was them that fitted it until after you hear what they have to say). if they agree with the other bloke about it confusing the engine managment you might have cause to get some work done for free.

Your LPG man is right - it should never have had a mixer ring system put on it in the first place. They are just too basic to work properly on an engine with such a complex injection/ignition system as your car has.
Give Gordon Finlay a call on 07974 397227,he is the nearest bloke to you who really knows his stuff on LPG.

Thanks eightinavee. I've spoken to several people now and they all say to get it done. The Car is booked in for a week wednesday. I'll let you know how it goes.

The multipoint system has been fitted today. I now have a smother car that revs more freely, and it is now difficult to tell the difference between petrol and LPG. I haven't been able to calculate the fuel comsumption but I will keep you posted. Its to early to tell for certain as it is too new, but the engineering and quality of components is impressive.
Now all I need to do is accidently fill it with laughing gas and see how fast it goes then!!
