Yes i did think the same thing.I will be doing about 260-280 a week so did not want to put that sort of mileage on her as i have had her 6 years and she has still only done just 60k(2001 4.6)Also i hvae looked at a 206 HDI
at a garage just down the road it's a 2002 1.4 looks in V good cond with 66k full one owner history and it will do 78 mpg :)
So that means £30 a week instead of £80 :D
I think the 206 is the answer to your problems .I have seen numerous driving school 206 s with 200k plus still going strong. If anyone cuts you up in it you can get them back at the weekends !!!

Congrats on your purchase - I snapped up 4.6 with 45k on the clock and it has been pretty good to be honest.

I am prepared to start the sweepstake on the first "guys, is it supposed to do xxx?" or "how do I stop it doing xxx?" at 9 days. Any advances?

Ha ha well everythings doing what it should....... Appart from , no warm air as got book symbol showing, and won't go into low range says select neutral a gear symbol flashes on dash, I reckon prob low range hasn't been used in ages, these are the only 2 faults so far anyway, and hopefully be easy fixes :-$

Did you know the book symbol was on when you bought it ?

Just to add my pennys worth, i bought a one owner from new and dealer serviced autobiography as a trade in to a LR dealer. I paid £5k for it and then had lpg fitted. She is a wonderful drive, the guy I got to fit my LPG screwed up and now she runs rough as **** on petrol, going to the garage tonight to get on diagnostics. If you are going for LPG, make sure you get it done professionally, i have set aside a grand to get mine fixed and will be having words with my solicitor re this lpg monkey. Any ways rant over, i was always told to stay away from a p38, but i didn't listen and i'm glad i didn't, they are amazing :)

Totally agree,
guy I knew had his catch fire (engine fire) less than a month after buying it.
Made me pause, what with all the scare stories an all.
Still went ahead and bought one, and so happy I did.

Had a few now, with some of the standard problems,
found some botched repairs and fixed em properly.

I used to love my jags, but the Rangie is better and the P38 so underrated.
Best cars I've ever had!!
:D:D:D

Its great to hear good stuff about p38 s!

I used to have an early P38 4.6HSE when I was 24, absolutely loved it and missed it constantly when I sold it to a mate. He's still got it and in January I bought the wife a 2.5 DSE P38 although a week after we got it I ended up having to under go an engine swap due to the FIP dying (main pump shaft had shiered into 3) which is now almost completed. Welcome to the emotional and financial rollercoaster that is P38 ownership!
