Hi, went green laning yesterday and today my disco wont start, its a 300 tdi 1998 Auto.
The lift pump has no resistance at all, I've tried it in several positions to make sure it wasn't off cam. There is a loud ticking noise, like an air pump
for a fish tank coming from the top of the injector pump.
Is there some type of electric pump in the injector pump?
Will fitting a new lift pump and bleeding the system cure the noise?
Thanks
John

Ticking and buzzing from the injection pump is normally a sign the injection pump is pulling air(it will run on the injection pump alone, just not very well). If you undo the bleed screw on filter and prime by hand does fuel come out?
If not, lift pump is shot and needs renewing, otherwise you have air ingress somewhere.
Fitting a clear piece of pipe between filter outlet and injection pump inlet helps to show what is going on

Yep your right James, misread thread-thought he had engine running-time I went and lye down and stopped giving mis information:D

Thanks for the replies,
Started at the beginning opened bleed on filter all ok,
cracked off the feed on the front of the pump all ok,
cracked off no1 injector wound engine over all ok,
cracked off no4 injector wound engine over all ok.
Fuel system seems to be ok.
Checked wire on no 4 injector, not touching anything wire seems fine.
Checked wire to stop (black and white wire going to rear of pump)
Battery flat now, off to charge it, any suggestions as to what's next?
John
