Lost Reverse

I bought my p reg disco (manual)about 6 weeks ago, about 3rd time i used it reverse had gone, no gear crunching, simply no sign of it, felt like i was pushing the lever against something solid, later the same day it came back and has been ok since. any ideas what happened??
Need to mention, reverse came back as i was trying to get the diff lock off by jolting the car forward ..........

Do a search on this as it's a well known problem. I think if I remember right the next time it goes you will need to do a partial stripdown & replace a new or uprated part to prevent this happening again.
