Need to change the rear shocks on my Defender but have fallen at the first hurdle, getting the alloy wheels off.

I can't get a purchase on the security wheel nut with the supplied key and the stupid lever that comes with the car.

Anyone near to Westbury, Wilts. got an air gun or heavy duty spider type wheel brace I can borrow in exchange for some beer money or indeed some bottled homebrew.

Failing that I'll take it to a tyre place on Saturday morning.

Is it driveable?

I can do it Friday but I can't come to you due to losing my parking but if you can get over to me I can get em off for you.

Thanks for the offer, I'll see if I can get it sorted Friday lunchtime, if not I
may take you up on it. I've still got your number from the chippy run.

It is driveable but the shock is knackered, the bottom rubbers are shot and it rattles like feck.

I'll get the two standard nuts currently on the spare put on the rear wheels in place of the locking ones so I can get the job done.

On order are 5 standard nuts, a breaker bar, and a 27mm socket, to keep in the back. No point in having a spare if you can't get the wheel off.

Thanks, I work in Reading so I'll be driving home that way but
I really think it will need a gun or something that can lever from both sides like a T-bar. The locking wheel nut key is not a snug fit and was slipping off when I tried with the standard wheel brace.

I'm sure the local tyre place will sort it. Once they are off I'll be ditching them for standard nuts.

I can deffo get 'em off but the butthole of the country might be too far:(

No problems.

The offer's there. Might be worth a try for the price of a pint....

OK got it sorted for now, thanks for the offers.

Couldn't get them off with a breaker bar as the nut key is knackered and loose. The nice man at Eurotec Tyres in Spencers Wood had to use the gun.

I've got the locking wheelnuts on the spare, not loose but tight enough so I can get them off if needed.

Rear wheels now standard nuts.

Some more standard nuts on order, will change the front when they arrive. I'm sure if someone wants to nick the wheels they'll come equipped in any case. More likely nick the whole car.

At least I can get on with the shocks.

Nice one:)

Give me a shout if you get stuck with the front locking nuts.

My new favourite tool has managed to shift the front ones.
