Limp home mode

Hi

My m8s freelander keeps going into limp home mode and the engine light comes on dash. Some times it comes on for a short while then goes off for rest of the journey others it comes on well into it but not at all on return. any idea's please.

What engine? I'm guessing it's a TD4? I know the petrol engine Freelanders don't have LOS.

My first guess would be to check the PCV filter,,

this will give an engine symbol if blocking up,
just not certain on the LHM being activated..

does it have the auto box if so I would be paying more attention to see if the fluid in the box ok does it need changing ? every 60,000 or there abouts

It is an auto yes

Also check the turbo filter that hangs down the back of the engine on the left. It's an often missed service item and it will cause the engine management light to come on temporarily if it's clogged.

Have the auto's barrel connectors come apart or do they have a bad connection? Damaged wires in the harness? Got any fault codes?
