Hi 2012 Freelander SD4 went into reduce power mode AA called out and Patrol found the following fault code/s:System : Engine control - 5Z9 / Diesel EDC 17CP42 Status :p006A - Intake manifold pressure / Air mass meter. Error Message : Malfunction. Historical fault.
I replaced the part but it went into limp mode again, any suggestions welcomed

That's not an LR code, so by that description it's difficult to tell what is wrong. What part did you replace?

There's a complete list of LR codes in my signature, so see if you can see a code that matches yours.

Hi John.
it sounds like the MAF sensor was replaced, Air mass meter, i wonder if it's the fuel filter, as you say guess work without proper readings.

Unfortunately like most modern vehicles swapping random parts seldom works. The ECM needs to run a calibration whenever a new part of the air or fuel system is replaced. Suitable diagnostic and programming equipment is needed to carry out an air path calibration. JLR SDD will do an air path calibration, and so will a couple of other diagnostic bits of kit.
Gone are the days where owners can simply swap out a component and expect it to work correctly. There's almost always some kind of calibration routine needed on modern engine for them to function correctly.

Thank you code was P00

That code doesn't exist in the LR code library.

What was changed, and what was the theory behind changing the component?

After accelerating sudden loss of power then notified reduced engine performance All I had of the AA was Patrol found the following fault code/s:System : Engine control - 5Z9 / Diesel EDC 17CP42 Status :p006A - Intake manifold pressure / Air mass meter. Error Message : Malfunction. Historical fault.Refit airflow and wiring check codes and reset bosh took a long time to comms. Engine Oil Level Low - Topped Up. Coolant Level Ok. Check airflow meters and wiring. Replace if Ness.

after accelerating to overtake it suddenly lost power went into reduce performance mode I presume limp mode, started fine next day and drove ok, due to being away for the weekend with long drive ahead called out AA. Patrol found the following fault code/s:System : Engine control - 5Z9 / Diesel EDC 17CP42 Status :p006A - Intake manifold pressure / Air mass meter. Error Message : Malfunction. Historical fault.Refit airflow and wiring check codes and reset bosh took a long time to comms. Coolant Level Ok. Check airflow meters and wiring. Replace if Ness.
So replaced MAF sensor and again later it went into limp mode, again after stopping and restarting it was fine, currently waiting for mate to hook it up to check

P006A don’t know why it keeps showing a smiley face

Ok so a new MAF sensor was installed.
It's likely not that MAF at fault, and replacing it without carrying out an air path calibration will cause more problems. You can't just replace sensors or actuators on these engines without carrying out a proper calibration on the engine using suitable equipment.

Most likely candidate for the fault is the throttle body, which is known to suffer stripped gears. It's also sensible to have all 4 boost hoses checked for splits, which will also cause boost and air flow issues.

I would put the old MAF sensor back in and get the vehicle to someone using suitable diagnostic equipment for this engine, preferably an LR specialist which is using JLR SDD diagnostic equipment.

Ok thank you, hopefully get it sorted this weekend will let you know 👍
