Lift Pump Problem

Did you compare the parts before fitting? I think there are different versions. Some need a spacer fitted.

Both pumps matched up but ive read a few posts that the spacer is not needed on certain blocks, my old one did not have spacer.

Ive just nipped that stripped bolt up tight enough till I get new one. like I say does not primeing yet will fix pipes back on then see what happens

Btw, I opened the fuel filter bleed valve and turned the engine over until fuel came out.

Sounds fine then. You could always trim the new bolts to length.
When I start engine fuel comes out the bleed screw on filter housing, but when I use the hand primer it does not seem to work, have I done something wrong Again??

No, it's probably off the cam. You do have the ignition on when you're pumping? Anyhow, if you have air free fuel at the filter, that's all you need. Check for leaks with engine running, job done!

the early steel flat plate needs the spacer when later long levered lift pump is used

Trying to send photos [GALLERY=] [/GALLERY]
The Irwin extractor was to thick to get fully on the bolt head,as you can see in photo, but It did mash it up a little to get another socket on was just about to pack up when it finally turned.
Still cant seem to use the hand primer but when I start engine and crack the bleed valve open the diesel rins thorough, just cant understand why the hand primer wont pump it through.

200tdi Bermarch pump. What do you mean by flick the engine over, been started a few times since fitting pump and still he same.

Sill not convinced about this new lift pump, it Still will not prime off lever by hand, when I fire engine up and loose bleed screw it does trickle out eventually.
If it was knackered what would the symptoms be?? would the engine not start? or would it finally stall through not getting diesel through?
Just wondering if I should take it back and see if I can get a replacement. It does start and run ok but just seems pointless fitting it when it does not prime as its supposed too.

remove it and try it by hand, ive had a few were outer lever doesnt work but inner does
Before I fitted it, it did work by hand moving the arm, and you could feel the movement, but since fitting there is nothing a all. Handle just moves with no resistance or feel.

its possible broken some are fragile[/QUOTE,
Like I say engine starts and runs ok but will go to local dealer where I got it from and try and get replacement just in case,
Ill need he shorter bolts, anyone now part number for them? as I need to replace the stripped one on mine.

I had one where the inner arm was made wrong and didn't even touch the cam. I had the pump off a couple of times scratching me head until I spotted it by holding old and new side by side.
Can't remember the make but it was a cheapy from paddocks. I've fitted a 12v facet instead now, well... 5 yrs ago actually.

OK Took it back off today and when moving handle the arm was moving as it should, I took it back to shop just to get second opinion and mechanic tried it and said it was working perfect, did not have the old one to compare but I'm certain there identical. all he could suggest was using the spacer but told him that my old one did not have one on. Put it back on for now but did notice when it was off that as soon as pressure is pushed on arm as in pushing it inwards the handle does nothing when priming, when no pressure you can feel and see the arm moving. Tried holding it in place with spacer on and arm in the block but it did no pump diesel up, when I fitted it back on just before I nipped bolts up tight arm was moving with primer but once bolts were nipped fully in back to nothing again.
I must be doing somhting wrong or maybe I do need the spacer.
