Okay, as LandyJumble is now growing with every event (this will be No. 4) and therefore covering its costs, we have decided to do our bit to help out with this so-called “Credit Crunch” thingy.

For 9th August 2009 only, all sellers pitches will be totally free … yes, FREE! This means you can now turn out your garage/workshop/back room of all that unwanted used junk (sorry – “recyclable used parts”) that has been cluttering up the place for years. The only condition is you must have at least 20 plus items for sale, otherwise folk will turn up with 2 or 3 items and claim a free sellers pitch to avoid paying the buyers admission fee. Been there and got the t-shirt - I know all the tricks. Not to leave out traders of new spares and accessories, their pitch fees have also been reduced to just £25 per pitch. Now that’s cheap!

As for buyers, instead of charging admission of £5 adult, kids under 16 yrs free, for 9th August 2009 only admission will be just £5 per vehicle. This means if all your mates pile into a Defender 12-seat Station Wagon, you’ll be quids in!!!

Club Display Stands are and always have been completely free, that way you can promote your club/4x4 response group/charity/forthcoming event together as a group actually alongside the traders, rather than be scattered individually across the car park. Just email/ring the organisers and this is easily sorted.

Uniquely amongst Land Rover autojumbles, there is also an off-road course operating all day. With enough routes to accept both novices/showroom condition vehicles and out ‘n’ out mud-pluggers, this costs just £20 play-all-day (reduced fee solely for LandyJumble events). Add to all this proper ceramic male and female loos, reasonably-prices bacon butties and even a marquee to sit and eat them in, you have the makings of a relaxed, fairly-priced, centrally-located event for everyone.

Reason all this is possible? Easy! Both the venue owner and the organiser are Land Rover enthusiasts, therefore unlike a magazine or commercial interest that has to make big bucks, LandyJumble is an event for us as owners and club people. It’s as simple as that.

BTW, I've now made the Trade Stands free as well as sometimes the line between what is new and what's secondhand is sometimes blurred. This way there can be no confusion, it's free to all sellers ... end of!

I hope this 'giveaway' works 'cause if successful I can carry it on for future LandyJumbles. Ever since I saw the same pricing policy used at a kit car show 10 years ago, I've always wanted to run an event that's free to sellers. In the short term it will help folk out a little in these troubled times, plus given time the mix of traders should be really diverse. Time will tell.

Re. the off-roading, as long as vehicles are deemed 'safe' (selt belts essential as are secure recovery points) then they don't even have to be road legal - they can be quite literally trailered to site. Basic safety is checked as it's in everyone's interest that nobody gets hurt by flying shackles/tow balls/rear cross members/etc. That we could do without!

i can confess that sibbertoft site is quite nice i have trialled there a few times with the AWDC and is lots of fun, Jai

Just to let you know with a week to go, seems the 'free entry for sellers' idea is working with loads of newbies asking about booking pitches. Good reaction at Billing too, the autojumblers mentioning the fact that it costs them enough in fuel as it is, so to trade for free is a real bonus. Really hope it all goes according to plan as my whacky idea of a free-for-traders idea could become a permanent feature. Not counting chickens though, we'll see if costs are covered on 9th August first!

To re-cap sellers - no need to book in advance, simply turn up on the day and you're in!!!

Hi

I'll be there. Do you think they'll be any stands selling electricals - specifically rolls of automotive wire, spots, switches etc? Also, what time's it kick off?

Just got my latest disco and not transferred all the protection over yet. How rough is the off-road course? Can a pretty much standard disco 1 go round without damage (competent driver of course!)

Thanks

Sorry, for once I really have no idea which traders/sellers will be turning up as usually traders will book in advance to take advantage of advance-booking discounts, only in this case ...

All I know is that plenty have either phoned or emailed to make certain the event date is set in stone and will take place whatever the weather. It is and it will!

Regarding the off-road course, the land owner recently invested over £2,000 hiring diggers and the like to make certain the course is suitable for road-going, family 4x4's as well as mud-pluggers. So yes, you'll be fine with the Disco.

Ermmmm - "compentent driver" / off-roading, strange how the two don't seem to go together! :D
