Hi

I live in hampshire and i want to start doing trials racing, ive been around land rovers for 3 years now so im fully aware of what they are like! i wanted to know if any of you lovely people knew where the events around here are or whereabouts in the south of england i could do it?

Also what is the best kind of set up for either comp safari or ccvt?

Thanks very much

Hey ho,

CCV Trials, 80 inch coil sprung V8 hybrid build to AROC then you can take part in any comps and not up agaist lots of dosh and really really trick stuff.

Comp Safari Depends expenive go to AWDC events and spend a fortune on trick stuff Use a discovery or RR classic and build a 100 inch racer or

AROC comp safari and build a 110 or 109 inch truck cab V8 hybrid or similar next best thing is a 92 inch 90 defender.

Some people choose to do both and build an 88 inch coiler which is not perfedct for either but will give you the choice if you so wish to compete in both.

Forget your Seamless CDS stuff you may well bend it and it and its scrap Red band to msa spec is good strong weight penalty but will last years and years and years.

Remember that dispite people and companys that reccomend CDS check out the people doing it first. I have had arguments with some kit car builders that venture into off road racing at weekends they always recomend CDS because they know it. Also note cage requirements most external cages do not meet specs. I had somone argue that its better than nothing. Well I don't think its worth fitting a roll cage unless its a rated speced cage for comps personally.

Its your vehicle your choice I personally like Red band proven and tested.

I think you may want to take a look at my clubs website Southern Counties Off Road Club. I am the Event Sec and Clerk of the Course for all the trials events. Our next one is on 17th Oct at Broxhead Common. Next years calender is currently 'under construction' but our sites are all across Hampshire, Sussex and Somerset (also looking into sites in Dorset).

There isn't really a setup that is suitable for both types of event.....well not since the mid-90s anyway. :) That is not to say that a good trials motor can't perform well at a comp safari as long as all the right safety kit is in place.

One of the chaps who trials with SCOR has also entered two rounds of the XTC with the AWDC and set the second fastest lap (by 2 seconds) at the last XTC round.....so it is possible. A better guide would be to take a look at a local clubs regs (have I mentioned SCOR ;) ) and take it from there.

Feel free to PM me or email me via the club website.

Get in with Andy,
