Hello everyone, my first post to this forum with a question.
I need 6 year service for Discovery 4 SDV6, 2013, with 48000 miles on clock. Main dealer quotes 789£, while JLR advertises it as 495£.
When I presented this information to 2 different dealership chains in my area, they agreed to do it for 495£ but with only visual safety checks and "all other safety checks and top-ups they normally do", omitted.
Both dealerships agree to do oil change, oil filter, air filter and pollen filter change.
My question is as there is only one manufacturer recommended major service schedule per vehicle. Can the dealerships "invent" their own to mint money from unsuspecting customers? Has anyone else face similar issue?
Many Thanks in advance for reading this and any guidance you can offer.
Regards
Sam

I was paying £700+ for the annual service for the first 4 years of my D1 ownership at the main dealer but that was London prices over a grand now for the current vehicle.

I don’t have any issues now with DIY servicing as the disco is a long time out of its warranty, but l used a local indie LR garage to to a service when I wanted the auto fluid changing total then £550 for the full monty service three times the amount I normally pay for spark plugs.
So try your local indie, they should have a fixed price list for just servicing, not for replacement of worn parts that’s extra.
As an example here in Kent http://www.rcv.co.uk/

My 3 year old V6 Jag annual service is only £360 at a main dealer that’s basic oil and filter change including the pollen filter, but will increase in £600+ when it comes to auto fluid, plugs and antifreeze maybe and fuel filter. Few years to go before that happens if it’s still owned.

Lr do a fixed price cheaper services fer vehicles over 3 years old. Not all dealerships want to take the price reduction so don't. A small number of things are removed from the list. They may not wash it as well. It's not a con. It's more than a basic service and enough ter keep the vehicle going.

When yer run a heavy car which eats wheel bearing and bushes, costing over £40k when new, yer have ter consider it will cost a lot ter maintain. It's an eggspensive vehicle ter buy so the parts will be eggspensive anorl.
