TONIGHT we have a contest ,in the red corner range rover dse 96 and in the blue corner big dave AGAIN its a rematch ...my rear is u/s so im hoping its going to be a 1 out 1 in job[some hope].im hoping someone could through some light on my problem,i appreciate the diffs have to be the same ratio but does anyone know wether the rear diff is a 2pin or a 4pin because ive seen both advertised? which one to go for? is the TC any thing to do with the diff[never had TC before],does it make any [email protected] a lot of info on the forum ,i hoped someone might know....thanks a lot ...dave ps this damned motor wont beat me if i can help it:doh:
 
2 pin or 4 pin - it wont matter, although the 4 pin is stronger and better. The important thing is whether its 10 or 24 spline, to match your halfshafts.
 
CHEERS MHM i knew ide have check the splines from past experience,looking on ebay i see 2 and 4 pin diffs listed.I have heard it mentioned that tdi300 diffs are the same but as usuall nobody can confirm it,i was hoping this will be a quick job,ffs.i reckon ill have to strip it and go from there also as usuall im,e running out of time cos the classic is due for its mot,it never rains but it pours....you will no doubt have been there yersel,,thanks for the input mate.........dave
 
cheers spud thats great ive found a 2pin dif of a pal of min free of charge,very nice too,but didnt know if it would fit,yippee thats good news mate,it means im just waiting for the oil seals and gaskets,,,,thanks a lot mate.......i knew someone would know on here....cheers...dave
 
to continue the saga,the lads on 6-2 today howay father lets get stuck in sez he ,so we got the ends of theaxle of with a lot of bother ,wonders never cease,porpshaft no chance,bolts bar tight and rounded off,out with the famous billy grinder,thats off,harmonic damper next,didd out next ,WHAT A MESS,hey da youve got more teeth than this crownwheel he sez[cheeky little git] theres 14 teeth missing or broken ffs,both diffs are the same ratio thank god we just have to check the splines but we were starving so it looks like its tommoro for that job+im going to get all new nuts and bolts for everything.its gonna be another busy day tomorrow......dont he realise i need me kip

ONGOING SAGA of the p38 and the mysterious da da ;today i took it out for a test run AAAAAAAGH its still making a knocking noise ffs but the whine has gone?there was 14 teeth missing of the crown wheel,i got a lovely sh diff of a friend of mine,the lad and i checked it correct ratio,halfshafts fit,no teeth missing,smooooth so smooth,put it all back together ,still knocking.WE reckon we can change the diff in@3 hours but we still aint sure whatsmaking the noise,gonna take it out and have a nother look cos we cant think of anything else ffs......dave..any help,tips suggestions would be gratfully recieved...thanks
