Hi everyone
I have only had my Range Rover for 3 weeks, everything worked perfect on it until it met me. It had a leak from the oil filter housing which i cured straight away, however there was a fair bit of old leaked oil which i set about cleaning away. I cleaned most of the engine bay and the underside too, obviously n/s front corner was the dirtiest.
When i restarted the car a host of problems appeared.

Air Suspension In-active

HDC Inactive

ABS Light + red brake light on dash

Traction control light on dash.

Two days later it all went back to normal, two days after that they were all back. The ABS light and brake light are intermittant but usually when driving the lights go out. The main one's there all the time are Air Suspension In-active,HDC In-active and the TDC LIGHT IS ON.

A friend put it on a code reader and it shown as follows

221 CAN:TIMEOUT ABS/ASC/DSC 00127 UNDOCUMENTED CODE

Any help or advice would be very much appreciated.

Thanks Lee.

Sounds like you have water in electrical connections, If the L322 has EKA code like p38-make sure it works before disconnecting battery.
Then all the plugs want cleaning with electrical contact cleaner DO NOT USE WD40 OR SIMILAR (maplin/electrical factors or maybe screwfix)
let them dry and then reconnect and check faults

Thanks for reply Fanatic, I agree problem due to water ingress,I was hoping fault code might direct me to a particular component as there are a lot of electrics. It is 10 days now since I developed problems, thought all would have dried out by now.
Thanks Lee.

Couple of things,
What Code reader was used, and what ECU did the 221 code come from.
Also was there any info about current or historic with that.

The CAN bus is a physically a pair of twisted wires that connects the Bus Members together. In the case of your 2002 L322 that ABS / EMS, Auto Box and likely some other items i forget like the Instrument Pack.

On later 05 on cars, the BUS(s) connect all ECU's together and diagnostics is done over them (There are then 2)

Electronically the Bus Carries data packets of information at extremely high speeds (Up to 2500 per second) with each member simultaneously transmitting its data on to the bus for others to listen to while listening for information it is interested in.

There is some fault tolerance built in, but if expected messages from a member of the bus are not received as expected for too long, other members of the bus get upset and report faults such as that you indicate.
But typically they would be found in several members of the Bus.

On later cars, there is so much data and so many members that such faults are common and can be ignored.

It is therefore possible you have just had a glitch caused by your leak and clean up. It's therefore worth clearing the faults and watching to see if they come back.

If they do than check the CAN wiring, especially that the twisted pairs are not undone for greater the 2CM.

Hope this helps

Thanks for info. The more i read the more Im learning.
I think code reader was a Snap On,no info other than that.
My best guess at moment is I'v affected the wheel speed sensor with my pressure washer. All the problems im having seem to rely on a signal from the wheel,no speed info means each of them is unable to work.
Not had chance to look at it yet,but that is where I will start.
Thankyou Lee.

It went back to normal last night for about 60 seconds, then the faults came back on.any idea's anybody?

Hello mate,

We have just had the problem with our l322 2002 and we have found that it was both front door plugs the pins we're corroded with water and the abs module the pins had rusted in the plug and broke off causing the there lights on the dash we had the pins replaced but now have to find a new abs module let me know how u get on

Cheers

Nat
