Good evening troops looking at getting a bit more power realativly cheap on the L series, firsty off can i get away with decatting the L series and still pass a mot? And also can somone enlighten me on these ronboxes??

Many Thanks chaps...

p.s oh sorrys it a 2000 model:)

It's a diesel so doesn't need a cat for the mot

Either do a bypass or just knock the centre of it out

ahhh right i didnt know this that diesels dont need a cat to pass a mot.. Stupid question then why are diesels fitted with them then?? Im guess to keep the tree huggers happy? Also do the L series even have a cat fitted i only ask because im amused that it did have one

i knocked mine out so the apperance of a cat is there got a EGR removal kit and fitted a big cone filter all at the same time

the car is not exactly faster but it revs so much more freely which does make a difference

stop dirty air from going back into the engine stops clogging up the intake manifold with black sludgie stuff which then lowers performance because the engine can not breath correctly

cheers buddy thats cleared things up a bit, you got a link to where i can get these parts i.e the decat and egr removal kit??

My decay all I did was take the cat off throw the old bolts away knock the middle out so the box was empty and refit with new seals and bolts

As for the l series egr kit search eBay it's all I did although I no there is 2 kits as u can get the blanks the same size or one smaller and mine was one with the smaller plate needed

awesome ill have a look now thanks mate:)

new nuts bolts and washers cost me a couple of quid and the egr thing was 9.00 at the time so by knocking your cat box out its not a costly job at all

with the decat, when it comes to the mot, and they see i dont have a cat fitted i.e a straight through pipe will this fail the mot?

I can confirm that Nodge68 is totally correct - you'll have absolutely no MOT problems having removed the cat/dpf or the EGR.

In the UK there is no check on cats or emissions on a diesel engined vehicle - there is only a smoke test.

My TD4 runs cleaner without those bits.

the reason i asked even tho it can still pass the mot without a cat, i thought they had to do a visual inspection to make sure one was fitted, im not trying to argue or say your wrong or anything like that mate, i just want clarification before i went ahead and ordered the decatted pipe and fitted it and then find when i get the mot done it fails.

the added bonus of just knocking the centre out of your cat it looks like it has one lol
