I removed my propshaft because of a droning noise. It seems to be the propshaft bearings which are now on order.

While the propshaft is off I took the Freelander for a spin and was getting a knocking noise on acceleration and when cornering from the front.

When I stopped to investigate the plate were the prop meets the IRD seems to have a tiny bit of play and this is giving the noise as I turn it left and right (no more than 1mm movement)

Is the IRD on the way out or does anyone know a fix for the noise?

Thanks,

Think I had a similar thing, turned out to be play in the lower engine/gearbox to body tie bar mount!
The knock was particularly noticeable on going between forwards and reverse and seem to be coming from the area around the drivers feet.... where the tie bar is!
Worth a check.

You would be surprised just how much movement the propshaft can prevent. This is only evident after it's removed, at which point you find the lower tie bar bush is shot.
