long story short, had anew engine fitted to my range rover, garage took it out after fitting for a test run, he went to a local motor factors shop, left it running outside and some low life jumped in it and drove off, anyway cars been recovered and is back in my possession, i had a spare key lucky enough.

right my question is regarding where does it leave me as obviously the scumbag who stole it still has the same key as mine, is there a way to change the alarm/immobiliser code and have new keys programmed, or do i have to buy new keys/ecu etc, ive thought about having a secondary alarm/imobilser fitted but that wont stop them entering the car if by chance they see it parked up?

thanks n advance

ive had murders with the geezer and ive told him what ever it costs is coming out of the money i owe him for the engine change and other bits i had done on the car which totals £2600, but im looking into all options available, secondary alarm/immobiliser? lock n ecu change? ecu reprogramming?

The early L322's used the BMW EWS system.....it could be a case of getting the thing on diagnostics at a main dealer, disabling the stolen key and getting a new spare coded up.

I think it is possible to have 10 keys pre-coded but only 4 active at any one time...so just get them to disable all other keys except the one you have.

Won't stop them using the mechanical key to get in, but will stop them from starting it and driving off.

Other than that, you may be able to just change the mechanical locks, ignition barrel and re-program an EWS ECU to the new keys......

Any option is gonna cost!

buy a disklok quick piece of mind fix till sorted

pedals chained to the steering wheel at the moment ;)

but i think ive found a solution that wont cost the £1100 the dealer offered... complete lock set change along with all the modules ect for £350 and il fit them myself, 3 hours labour job done and the old key is useless.

They should have indemnity insurance to cover this sort of thing. Doubt the usual insurance covers leaving the car open and running!

What are you doing trying to find a solution? It's the garages responsibility, just tell them to get it sorted then pay them for what you owe on the other jobs they did.

Citizen's Advice Bureau could probably help. Or your insurance company probably provides legal cover as part of your insurance. Check your policy. You shouldn't be paying for other people's cock-ups. We already do enough of that through our taxes.

Doubt it, one MP from the North East didn't understand why people from the North East are worried about TATA closing plants when in his world TATA only make steel in Wales. Guess places like Scunthorpe are confused as to what it is they have based the whole town on.

Or why they voted the mindless plick into office. Think of the effect on our military manufacturing if we have to buy steel from the Far East, quality would suffer for one if they will sell it to us.:mad::mad:
