Hi, may I ask for help? I just bought a year 2000 Range Rover 4.6 HSE which the handbook says should come with 2 handsets/keys and a security card, plus possibly a wheel nut socket for locking wheel nuts. Unfortunately, I got only one key with the car and there is no key number . A previous owner seems to have written the emergency key access code in the handbook. Can anyone tell me how I can replace these items. Presumably a proper Range Rover dealer is quite expensive. Glad of any advice, thanks. Rod

There are many threads on here about keys but here are the basics.

You get keys from a main dealer - NOWHERE ELSE! All of the keys offered on ebay or elsewhere are useless.

A key will cost you about £150 and you will need to produce your V5 as they will need your VIN number.

You can have four keys for a Rangie. Each key is electronically different because they were designed to set up the seat and mirrors for that specific key/driver when you opened the car. Therefore the keys are numbered 1 - 4 but the number was on a sticker on the key. If you have key one and buy another number one then when you sync it to the car it will overwrite the info that allows your present key to work so you will still have one working key.

Whilst you are in the dealer ask them for the access code and check that what you have is correct, and then carry that with you at all times, not inside the car!

As for the locking wheel nuts, if they are original then they have a single letter code stamped into them and you can buy a key, this time from ebay if you want, or from the dealer whilst you're ordering up your ignition key(s). If you can't find the code for the wheel nuts ask nicely at the dealers as you will find that will have a complete set of keys in the workshop.
